The President announced a broad new immigration plan today which he says will build a merit-based system that puts Americans first.
The proposal includes increased funding for border security, continued construction of a border fence, stricter standards for asylum seekers and a point-based visa system that would radically overhaul the way visas are granted.
UC Hastings Law Professor Hadar Aviram tells KCBS Radio anchor Rebecca Corral, while other countries have similar point-based systems, it doesn't make sense for the US.
