A team of 37 researchers from 16 countries embarked on research confirming that the ocean's deepest residents are facing rapidly-declining populations due to exploitation. The research showed that deep water sharks are among some of the most sensitive to this, being targeted for their liver oil used in supplements and hair care.
For more on this, KCBS Radio news anchor Pat Thurston spoke with David Ebert, Shark expert with Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and San Jose State professor. He was one of two American researchers on the team.
