Dr. Stephen Gitelman, a pediatric endocrinologist, joined KCBS Radio’s Alice Wertz on “As Prescribed” to discuss teplizumab, the first drug approved for Type 1 diabetes since insulin. This week, a study was published showing this drug can also be safely used in kids shortly after diagnosis. UCSF has played a HUGE role in both the discovery of teplizumab, and getting it to market, for decades.

A 14 year old San Francisco girl is in Juvenile Hall, arrested in connection with more than a dozen retail thefts involving more than $30 thousand dollars worth of goods.

Police were called to a theft in progress at a store on Market Street where they say the girl was part of a ring of adults and teens targeting stores around the San Francisco Centre.

This comes as new numbers suggest the city is making a dent in retail theft. The story from KCBS Radio reporter Holly Quan.
