Hurricane Ida is testing the system of levees, walls, storm gates, and pumps installed around New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Thus far, the city has been protected, but the rest of Louisiana has not fared as well. Storm surges from Ida have severely damaged the infrastructure of surrounding areas and devastated communities across the state.
