Clifford Ray Junior's rare opportunity to rescue a dolphin is now a children's book

View descriptionShare

A new children book is hitting the shelf soon, but it's not your typical story.

Former NBA champion Clifford Ray Junior is widely known for his time with the Chicago Bulls and the Golden State Warriors between the 1970s and 80s, but he also is known for rescuing a dolphin with his own hand.

Back in 1978, Ray, who is 6-foot and 9-inches tall, was taken to an animal theme park located in Redwood City at the time to perform a risky operation on a bottlenose dolphin. He had no experience as a veterinarian and his only qualification was his wingspan.

Ray will be in in front of Old Fisherman’s Grotto in Monterey on April 27 for a book signing.

To hear more, KCBS Radio news anchors Bret Burkhart and Patti Reising spoke with Clifford Ray Jr., Former professional basketball player and coach for the NBA.
