For the past two years, researchers at UC Berkeley have been working on finding ways to reduce plastic waste by turning it into something more valuable, and it seems as if they are finally getting closer to their goal.
It's all possible thanks to a new chemical process developed by these researchers that can essentially vaporize two of the dominant types of post-consumer plastics by yielding certain gases to make new plastics.
To understand all this some more, KCBS Radio news anchors Bret Burkhart and Patti Reising spoke with John Hartwig, Professor of Chemistry at UC Berkeley, who led the research.
