Department of Homeland Security has new plans to combat the fentanyl crisis

View descriptionShare

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security have announced a new plan to combat the fentanyl crisis by reportedly taking aim at shipments of the chemicals used to make the drug.

This comes as authorities have been struggling in recent years to get a handle on the issue with more than 100,000 Americans dying of overdoses every year; more than half of those from fentanyl.

For more on this, KCBA Radio's Margie Shafer and Matt Bigler spoke with David Herzberg, History professor at the University AT Buffalo who researches the nature of drug use and policy in the US.
