Journalist Marisa Fox always knew her mother had secrets. Her mother Tamar Fromer-Fox had never shared the circumstances under which she had left her native Poland on the eve of World War II, coming to Mandatory Palestine, where she joined the Lehi. I was a hero, never a victim, her mother would say. Twenty years after her mother's death, Fox learns Tamar had a secret identity and follows leads across the globe, uncovering a story of Nazi trafficking and a defiant sisterhood in a women’s forced labor camp. That story is told in Fox's documentary, "My Underground Mother," which will be screened in Israel for the first time on Wednesday, October 14th at the Jerusalem Cinematheque, as part of the Jerusalem International Women's Film Festival running October 12th through 16th. Fox spoke earlier with KAN reporter Naomi Segal.
