Published Mar 16, 2025, 8:40 PM

Human Nature's Andrew & Mike Tierney join Jonesy & Amanda to chat about their new project!

And Amanda jam Well.

Our next guests are as talented as they are handsome. I hope they don't mind me saying that they're brothers.

They're not handsome.

They're not handsome handsome and so are brothers and their bandmates. Just like handsome. They make up half of the wildly popular human nature. Of course, I'm talking about Andrew and Mike Tierney.

Gentlemen, helloing morning, and you've got through those other two losers, and there's about time.

It was have You've been saying it for years? Pulled me aside.

I love you boys, and you know we've had a long association for for many, many years.

But to see you still going and still doing it is just fantastic.

Yeah, it's great. Now, this is a project, you know, Andrew, It's a project of love. I suppose you know.

We started writing music together as kids, you know, in our bunk bedroom at home out in Panania, you know, And.

So paint the picture of that. So who had the top bunk?

I had the top bunk.

It was actually one of those bunks that didn't kick a bit of an l shape anyway. I was on the tip, Michael at the bottom, and we had a little computer set up beside there, and she actually wrote telling everybody in that in that bunk bedroom, yes, And.

Mum said, what is that garbage? She didn't like it. She thought it haunded like silver Chair at the time.

And I remember playing the demo and she goes, if you like that kind of thing, if you like silver.

Chair, amazing, And so I know you're still with human nature. But you've got you've got.

Your own CD album, all a single, You've got all of it. What stylings have you gone with? Is this the stuff that you've always loved?

Well, we've always loved pop music, like I still love pop music. I listened to you Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter still and just see what's happening. But for us since the harmonies has been a constant in our lives, and so we were kind of trying to steer away a little bit from the harmonies, but then we thought we'd just lean into it because that's what we do as brothers and we've always done. So it's it's really pop, it's very uplifting, and it's stories of our families.

You know.

There's a song by by our man who we lost last year. And our wives and our kids, and it's just it's all about the different loves in our lives.

Did you recreate the bunk bed situation to write the songs?

No, we didn't know a good idea though maybe if we do another one.

I don't know how the wives and.

Kids feel it weird Like Silver Chair.

And Toby and Phil, they're all they're all cool with this.

Yeah, they're really cool with me.

We actually head out on tour with Human Nature next weekend we start to celebrating Motown twenty years of our Motown record and actually Andrew and I wear the support act for that show.

Wow, does that mean, like, do you get do you get to speak to the actual band.

Or they've got a special room.

We hope to meet them. Yeah, but don't assume. Don't assume too.

Apparently they look really old these but you know, so, do you.

Get a break between singing and then going off stage and coming out and singing again?

Yes, we have a sure. Yeah, we're not sure how it's going to work out.

Do a wardrobe change quick wardrobe so not like.

A Taylor Swift one, because she was quite extraordinary. She'd fallen through the ground and then come up and you out.

And apparents used to use a bucket for a toilet too, so we're hoping, well.

That's what I heard.

She was on stage for three hours.

Apparently someone was saying so that Yeah, people talking how did she go to?

Well that begs the question have you ever been on stage?

And because you've done done it so much, has that ever happened, whether there was a situation, it has happened.

And suddenly the song has just been sung by three I just.

Had to run really fast to the yeah, and I made it back in time. But yeah, I mean we were doing the shows, you know, when we're in Vegas. We were doing them six nights a week.

So a dodgy tom tum yeah stage and vomiting a bucket I did at one point that was and then came back on to do the rest of the show.

I think I bought it on eBay.

But you guys have come so far.

Like I was just thinking the other day about you during the pandemic and someone.

Accused you of trying to kill the grandma.

And we wrote a song about that on the new album too.

Which is World.

Because human nature, if you looked back in time, human Nature, one of the sweetest bands in the world.

They tried to kill someone's grandma.

That's right.

We were doing a show out in Rudy Hill and someone said, you know, how would you put our grandparents at risk by putting them in the audience that I think?

I think we'll be fine.

Well, boys, it's great to talk to you. The CD is out. You brought the CD in. We don't have the technology to play it.

We can stream it.

You can do the modern things.

But also we wanted you to put it in your Easter.

Easter there's only one. It'll be like a lucky dip one personal get.

How many show bags do you think yourself?

Well, we sold out last year.

Well Jones and I sold it years ago at our showbag sold out last Okay.

We'll see what we can do.

I think that's the best bag ever.

Thank you. It's called Soundtrack of My Life.

Do yourself a favor.

We were all of those great things.

We're doing some shows in August two, so you're not busy, Brendan, you can come out and I.

Love on stage.

I did a great intro at the last gig for you guys. I thought it was really good.

What was the one you did years ago.

With Oh, that was when we first started. So I was working in a bit of yes okay.

So Tanya Boll were out of Paramatta doing a thing and I made a joke. I said, I used to be the fifth member of Human Nature. This is off stage, and but I didn't like. I left because I didn't like the direction they were heading. And Tanya said, what's that success? And I said, oh, that's great, let's do that on stage. So I got up on stage and I said, and now human Nature. I used to be the fifth member of this band, but I left because I didn't like the direction they were heading.

And she didn't say it.

I was slag and you guys, you.

Finally got your apologies.

Maria Vanudi said, oh, that's a bit hard. It's a bit hard. Boys.

It's always great to see you and we look forward to your shows. Thank you for ticketech dot com dot au.

By the way, yes, and soundtrack in My Life is the album?

Yeah, thank you very right.
