Bright Ideas grants from Jackson EMC fund
innovative classroom projects for middle school teachers in all disciplines, from
science, social studies and math to fine arts, physical education
and languages. Twin Rivers Middle School in Gwinnett County, the largest school
district in Georgia, has won more than $40,000 in grants since 2015, led by
veteran science teacher Andrew Cox. Cox has won grants for his eighth
grade science classes for creative and innovative projects such as launching a
weather balloon launch, measuring radon, and recording infrared
images. Your Power Your Community podcast
host Karen Ewing talks with Cox about his creative process, his favorite
moments, and why he doesn’t ask students
for ideas.
