May 29, 2024 9AM - It's Your Business - Working on Wellness WednesdayBlog—May 29, 2024—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday
Our Working on Wellness Wednesday show gets a chance to work with different health care organizations---to share big story lines----interesting findings—and help our audience.
Having worked thru the years as a pretty doggone good TV Medical Reporter—if we can’t get the doctor on the air-----I get to tell the story the guest would have told.
This morning----it Sanford---and I always try to prepared---and I was----with the notes that shared that Sanford USD Medical Center had been awarded one of the Newsweek’s American Best Maternity Hospitals.
Proud for my friends at Sanford---and how they are bringing life into the world as such a precious gift---
Here were some of the notes that shared what the ranking were based on:
The ranking is based on 3 pillars
----1----Nationwide Online Survey—Healthcare professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about maternity processes and neonatal and perinatal doctors, nurses and midwives were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals in the US.
----2----Patient Experience Survey----yes he survey of the overall patient experience in the hospital
----3----Hospital Quality Metrics—Indicators relevant to maternity care were considered. High quality maternity care, provided from pregnancy thru birth and postpartum is key to the long-term health of newborns and women who gave birth. Given that maternity care is a major component of health care, Newsweek and Statista, the world-leading stat portal and industry ranking provider have partnered for the 3rd time to identify America’s Best Maternity Hospitals in 2024.
Sanford USD Medical Center delivered 3229 babies in 2023 and also offers several parenting preparation, childbirth and pregnancy classes---find more information at SanfordHealth.org
Congratulations to Sanford and all those that made this happen.
From Avera—Dr. Kimberlee McCay—shared that Avera Research Institute had received a 5 year $5.4 million grant thru the federal Healthy Start Initiative to reduce infant mortality thru services that foster healthy pregnancy and continued support after childbirth.
Since 2017—Avera’s OB/GYN Service Line has been working toward improving the quality of care delivery for its maternity services in RURAL AREAS. Dr. McCay has led quality improvement initiatives as OB/GYN Service Line Clinical VP at Avera, and serves as Avera Research Institute Medical Research Director. Work with smaller communities is so very important---and we’ll help tell the stories as we can working with Avera in the coming years.
Avera BIRTHS will provide funding to develop, launch, and operate a community facing education, social support and maternity care program from pregnancy to up to 18 months postpartum.
This care pathway for pregnant patients addresses education, medical literacy, culturally appropriate perinatal care, and other services to improve long-term outcomes for both women and infants.
Great story---and the word rural and births ---fit really well with the 5 year, $5.4 million grant they are receiving----congratulations.
9:32---we visited with Dr. Joshua Jordie----it fit the weather---feeling a fit like spring—but now that Memorial Day has passed we are basically looking into summer.
As Dr. Jordie explained—patients have gotten their bearing with their increased and different activities so they’ve no longer having those pains of the body being unused to everything—instead the main thing is trying to keep from overdoing it---
Most of the patients were coming in because they were starting softball practice or golf—and perhaps they were overdoing it.
The strains are there from over-doing it but the fear is a trauma injury and patients should get checked out rather than just taking a wait and see approach.
There are two ways you can prevent these sort of injuries---and yes stretching before any athletic or other strenuous event.
Dr. Jordie made us feel comfortable—and I think he helped our audience too.
Lisa Ottmar—Helpline Center –shared they will be hosting the 13th Annual Step Forward to Prevent Suicide Event on Saturday June 8th. Its has a 9:00AM start at Fawick Park in Downtown Sioux Falls.
The hope is to Step Forward to Prevent Suicide. Good speakers -people that will share in a remembrance ceremony with a 1.5 mile walk.
Helpline welcomes Chantelle Friedman as the guest speaker. She lost her dad to suicide six years ago. She and her family have found it important to be advocates for mental health care and suicide prevention. She will share then when someone dies by suicide it doesn’t end the pain, it passes the pain onto the many that care about them, and there is always someone who cares.
We will follow along and give additional information leading up to June 8th.
