Blog---May 30, 2025-9-10—It’s YOUR Business—Friday Family

Our It’s your Business Friday (Family) talked a lot of different topics with people that help us know what is going on.

   Jodi Schwan—for instance---shared—

Visitor outlook for the season is cautiously optimistic as travelers watch their spendingWe’ve seen some recent coffee shop openings –a national brand opening its first Sioux Falls Store and yes an entrepreneur bringing a new local conceptOh yes there was a fun story this week on a mother-daughter team showing their cooking skills on national TVAnd yes Jodi has a soft spot in her heart and maybe digestive track loving the FOOD Trucks

Jessie Schmidt—the BBB of South Dakota did some dissecting as a veteran navigating government programs and benefits –scammers know how confusing and complicated they are---and yes they scam us where ever they can. We want to believe the scammers has picked us out of the crowd—and while pretending to represent the government they target veterans with promises of special grants and other programs. If you or a family member is a veteran, stay alert to that common scam.

Ironically the sliming general contact vets via phone, email or messaging aps like Facebook Messenger. They claim to be representing a special government program for vets. This alleged program may be loan forgiveness, mortgage aid, or even a “grant” meant to pay living expenses.

If you pay the processing fee—scammers will likely come up with believable reasons for you to pay a second and third fee—all of course to get a larger grant. Unfortunately the money doesn’t exist and you will lose anything you forever. Listen to the show to hear what Jessie explained during her segment of the show.

Teri Schmidt—Experience Sioux Falls—recalled how Memorial Day was busy at Falls Park—and the National Jump Rope Championships will be here in 4 weeks---there has been plenty of planning getting ready for this event—and we’ll follow along as the jumping begins and will conclude as well.

Kip Rounds—SD Game Fish and Parks—gave us some of what to expect in 2025----Spring turkey season officially wraps up this Saturday. Pheasant nesting is all at its peak and we should start seeing pheasant chicks on the ground soon. For hunters now is the time for them to apply for their 2025 deer license.

Brandon Hanson--- Mr. Downtown Sioux Falls---drew some pictures for us. Patio season is in full swing---Sculpture Walk is up with over 60 new sculptures throughout the district and its just a great time to get, walk a little, discover something new, and support LOCAL.

Walkability matters in Downtown Sioux Falls. When you make space for people—you see more foot traffic, which means more business, more interaction and strong community connections.

Still a week out---the event called:

Open Streets: Community in Motion

Friday June6—5:30-8PM—Phillips Avenue between 6th and 7th---and yes we’re continuing our summer Open Streets series.

We’re grateful to AARP South Dakota, our key partner in this series. They helped us shape the vision for this to use public space creatively, build social connection, and bring energy to downtown in a way that’s fast, flexible and inclusive.

Levitt at the Falls is in full swing---Friday, Saturday, and Sunday you’ll get to enjoy nightly concerts. There are 50 free shows all summerlong. This weekend features live music every night on the Levitt Lawn.

SIX the MUSICAL---is all weekend long at the Washington Pavilion. One of 6 incredible broadway productions they bring to our community one of which is the six wives of Henry V!!!.

John Gaskins talked about the Sioux Falls Canaries and Cat Clark golfing with his 6 year old daughter. Both helped us draw some pictures. Sometimes giggling Gaskins talked about Jabary bring home run records---winning and while hitting the long ball---also pitched an inning. He has a League Record for all the things he’s doing—and is a fan favorite. Not sure what all Gaskins giggled and grinner about—but this guy is worth the price of admission.

Sanford’s Diana Patterson talked about opportunities to work-here-there and many Sanford Spots. She shares a different function or feature of Sanford in every show.

Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App—Streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson posts the show as a podcast. My job is to schedule and interview the guests---and make sure we find some ground that will interest our listeners.
