Blog—May 23, 2025—9-10—It’s YOUR Business

Friday before the start of the Memorial Day Weekend. Guests –good information---and a cross section of what to expect---and how to enjoy families.

   Who shared what?

Jodi Schwan---talked about the events she had followed for the week---things like announcements from Culver’s, Dollar Trees plus a newcomer Urban Cheapskate opened at the Western Mall.

Valley Spring got a nod for steady growth---but Sioux Falls Sales Tax was “flat”—seeing slower growth patterns.

Then there was Al Schoeneman—who retired this week---and those he brought into the business and helped with the business will long remember what he has done and you can bet will not just sit ---he’ll be engaged. Thank you!!!!

Jessie Schmidt---BBB of South Dakota and of course Sioux Falls—needed some time for family---and was not in our show---but I know she would have appreciated us introducing one of the sure signs of summer---Wild Water West---The Last Word contest the Park opens Saturday –one ticket—unlimited waterpark fun—located five miles west of the Empire Mall. We gave our listeners a chance to win in Jessie’s slot in the 9:00 hour—and then just before the closing Weekend Forecast in the 10. We will have winners next week---you’ll want to listen.

Our good friend Teri Schmidt---Experience Sioux Falls-talked to us about making those coming to our town for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day to make them feel welcome. It is what we do—and if you aren’t making at least one person or family comfortable—do it---as many tell us they want to be part of the experience.

Kip Rounds—our good friend with SD Game Fish and Parks wasn’t working in Pierre this morning for the prep and the follow-up to the Memorial Day Weekend. If he couldn’t join---he sent along some helpful hints for me to share---with the turkey hunting, continuing thru he end of May—deer hunting—the with the license application period for the 2025 Deer Season officially open—you as hunters have until June 17th to apply for deer tags—and the sooner the better. Always appreciate what Kip and Game Fish and Parks do for all those living in South Dakota and coming to visit.

Ron Nelson---Nelson Commercial Real Estate did his stop in for May—and we talked about a lot of confusion and mistakes as people do their leases. Normally we just talk to Ron about commercial real estate—and he wanted the listeners today to do take a Nelson short course on leasing too. They do both.

He explained why lease instead of purchase---and if you have a new business and not sure what the future looks like---leasing can give you the flexibility to grow or shrink as your business changes.

As “Nellie” explain---lease documents govern the relationship during lease term—it can range from 4 to 40 pages. You’ll want to listen to this segment that was smack dab in the middle of the show to find out what you need to know---to make sure you don’t get surprised.

Be careful of the Gotcha---the use clause. This defines what out can do/sell etc in the space. It can be very broad or very tight. Know that there is a broader use clause—allowing legal terms that he shares they defer to the lawyers---and you should too. And if you need a quick primer---get in touch with Nelson Commercial Real Estate at 605-728-7600.

Last quarter hour—we talked with Bird with Jon Gaskins on the Sioux Falls Canaries. A little take me out to the Ball Game—is good this time of year---special nights, he talked about players to watch---and what to expect in the 2025 season.

Cat Clark made sure we had insights on the Golf Season and all they and others do in Sioux Falls to get kids involved, those that are adults that need a little set of instructions. Cat talked about his daughter who picked up the game—and how it is important for parents to pass the golf game along in as many ways as possible. Generations make for quite the golf games—and we like to look and story-tell.

We closed the show with Diana Patterson---Sanford Career Opportunities. Regardless of what you do in this world---health care is important—I always feel like at the end of the hour—on Friday with Sanford ---perhaps I can help—and we try to do.

Listen live to the show at 1320—105.1---107.9---use the KELO App—Streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson shares the podcast of each show---my job is to schedule the guests, interview them, with plenty of prep---and then right this blog. If you have questions for me-feel free to call-text at 605-728-Bill –or email me at bill.zortman@mwcradio.com.
