AARP South Dakota: Celebrating Veterans and Military Families

  • Highlighting Resources for South Dakota Veterans: AARP South Dakota salutes the service and sacrifice of our state’s veterans and military families. We help them navigate health benefits and the job market, support family caregivers of veterans, and fight fraud targeting our service members. Our goal is to connect our veterans to resources available to them. You can find a wealth of resources at aarp.org/veterans.
  • Also in honor of our Veterans and Military men and women, AARP offers a special promotion for Veterans, Military and their families all year long. To take advantage of an up to 45% membership discount and free gift, visit www.aarp.org/veterans. The members of our military work so hard to protect and serve, so we’ll keep fighting to protect and defend the benefits they have worked so hard for.

South Dakota Property Tax Refund Program: Do You Qualify?

  • AARP South Dakota works to help individuals 50-plus make sure their money lives as long as they do. That is why we fight for measures to help provide financial security, like the South Dakota Property and Sales Tax Refund Program. Each year during the legislative session, we proudly advocate for funding to keep this program available for older adults with low income and people with disabilities. The deadline to apply for this state program is July 1, so be sure to get information and see if you qualify. We have a story pinned to our website at aarp.org/sd, so you can easily find information there, along with a link to the state application form.

Join AARP South Dakota to support the Sioux Falls City Football Club on May 31

  • Catch live women’s soccer action with the Sioux Falls City Football Club on Sunday, May 31.  Join AARP South Dakota to cheer on our home team as they also raise awareness about mental health and brain health. The first 100 people who use the code ACTIVEAGING2026 when purchasing their tickets on the Sioux Falls City Football Club website will get a ticket discount. Game time is 4pm at Bob Young Field.

Livability in South Dakota

  • We are excited that June 24 will be the day we’ll announce the 2026 AARP Community Challenge Grantees. This national program has been in place for 10 years now, and so AARP doubled its dollar investment this year to celebrate. While we wait for this year’s grantee announcement, we’re featuring the 40 South Dakota projects that have been funded with highlights on our Facebook page. Be sure to follow our page and check out the posts sharing these community stories.  We’re also talking a lot about walkability and how we can help communities improve pedestrian safety and overall quality of life through activities like neighborhood walk audits.
