March 27, 2026---10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business Show---Show 51-52
(((From the Blackburn Studios in Downtown Sioux Falls-BECOME a Blackburn PROTECTED HOME
((((MUSIC---THIS ole HOUSE)))
(((((YEE-HAH----I’m Bill Zortman and welcome to our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show---show 5,152----))))
We have worked this show with these guests making their plans to be heard----in this special hour.
We start with Darren Hefty---AG PHD-----he is gracious with his time and talks with me----every Friday to reach his home audience---tune up his voice and then talk to people all over the country.
Darren---good morning---we were talking about planting—where we are by ALMOST April Fool’s Day---and for many what we are doing on our acres by GOOD FRIDAY’s EACH YEAR---means something you see and can expect---or not expect to get to the bank----
Which is it going to be this year----
-------------------------Darren---------------------
You were reminding me it was dry last year---what you are expecting in 2026?
--------------Darren--------------------
If you see a planter just setting with some warmer weather-my guess is you and your brother—start getting antsy wanting to take advantage of the soil already heating up-----and sun is wasting to get on with the crop 2026----
--------------Darren--------------------
Less than a week to “NO FOOLING DAY”----it’s time to get going isn’t it
--------------Darren-------------------
Kind of questions you are being asked----what would you tell us----people want to know and are more than a little concerned about----
---------------Darren-------------------
Being an old farmer—you have had these years before getting into the field because of moisture can be a problem-----prices---expectations and what else are on your mind---as well
---------------Darren--------------------
For those that don’t know—how can they watch or listen to what you and your brother are doing –and oh yes at what time?
-----------------Darren--------------------
Expectations for 2026?
Darren Hefty Ag PHD we---thank you for your all you do for all of us
We’ll talk more from South Dakota----after we graciously go to the Hawkeye State---yes where I was---born---worked on the family farm---went to the University of Iowa---and have done more than 10,000 television and radio broadcasts---sharing what I learned today---we get to visit with Don McDowell---Iowa Ag Information Officer----we know they are celebrating AG Week---and he is in Carroll County----where my wife Carolyn and I were married ---years and years ago—
One of the things you wanted to talk to me today about is America250---heading into planting season---Iowa legislative session and any events we should talk not only in Iowa about—but neighboring states like South Dakota
Talk to us about 2026---what you are seeing---what those that are planting are hoping for-----
Kind of discussions you are having----how this year compares with the last couple of years------and the importance of the family farm in Iowa-----to you my family relatives and people from Hawkeye corner to corner---
Farm issues the Iowa Legislature is working on----
Don McDowell---Public Information Officer---Iowa Ag ---
If we can and my old friend Ag Secretary Mike Naig gets the opportunity---we can always update---and work between the Hawkeye State –where my wife and I were born----and help folks know that Land Stewardship is important as well as working for family and saluting them as best we can with a good crop-----
Another time we’ll talk about my folks left us 6 kids in Monona County Iowa---that we are just about to realize their sweat—their love and their love for all of us---Unbelievable---and we appreciate what they did for us when they were with us—and what model they wanted to set up for the six of us---and yes other families.
I’m the oldest---and I really care about how they did what they did---and how we can share with others across my Hawkeye State—thank you for caring about agriculture—and a little farm family in Monona County, Iowa---just a few miles from the Ole muddy Missouri----we hope what our folks did—and how they did it----will be perfect examples to other parents—grand-parents----and family to do something to make lives more in touch with opportunities in 2026---and years to come.
Don McDowell please thank your Governor for what he has done Governor Naig wasn’t available---but we are proud to be Hawkeye’s and hope what we are doing as a family---will give others ideas on what they can do to remember their relatives----
