Blog---March 26, 2025-9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday

A variety of help for our Working On Wellness Wednesday---in rather strange arrangement---it was Red Cross Giving Day---in Minnesota and Iowa---and while Sioux Falls has several blood drives coming up in April---the support today was from Arc of Dreams that will be red (for blood) and it serves as a reminder that that need for blood this year in this REGION has been unusual. For instance—regional teams responded to more than 200 single-and-multi family home fires in just 50 days –turning lives upside down and underscoring the urgent need for help. This year’s disasters have set a whirlwind pace, displacing thousands of people from their homes across the country and disrupting the nation’s blood supply for patients.

Here in South Dakota –Executive Director Patti Brooks joined us to talk about giving not only blood but dollars----and their were a few events in South Dakota today---but there are 3 scheduled in the first 18 days of April. The least we can do to help----and we will. I’ll even try to give blood myself—preparing to not come up short by 1 number being eligible to give earlier this year.

Visit redcross/mndaks to make a much needed financial donation.

Second up was Dr. Bryan Feyen—MD—gastroenterologist at Avera—as we talked about the importance of getting a colonoscopy ---

Dr. Feyen talked about how common is colon cancer?

What are signs and symptoms of colon cancer?

At what age should someone get a colonoscopy—after age 45 if should be a routine at least every 10 years.  It is colon cancer awareness month too!!!

The numbers for those with cancer is higher than you think. 120,000 cancer cases was a number we talked about—and we talked as well that I should certainly—being well over 45---get updated with a colonoscopy. Something I’ll try to do for myself—and report back to Dr. Feyen and the audience SOON.

Dr. Joshua Jorde joined us this morning---and we talked about his wife contributing interesting stories for his visit with It’s YOUR Business a couple of times a month.

March—according to Mrs. Jorde—is Kidney Health Month---and Joshua was able to tell her that chiropractor can and do.

The good news is even with issues relating to organs like the heart, lungs, gut or yes even kidneys, a chiropractor should be able to provide a diagnosis, whether able to treat it themselves or not, or at the very least know the signs that they need to send you somewhere else immediately to get the care you do need.

Kidney trouble---maybe not with a chiropractor but if you have stomach or gut issues, regular headaches, high blood pressure or even other organic complaints that you’re wondering if chiropractic can help with—come visit them at 2821 S Center Avenue M-W-F 9-5:30 and T-Th—9:00-1230 and Saturday 9-noon.

Last stop for the Wellness Wednesday was with Christy Vantenhout—McCrossan Boys Ranch. Coming on Thursday April 3rd---at the Sioux Falls Arena—a dazzling evening packed with jaw dropping entertainment ---including mesmerizing Cirque-style-performances, mind-blowing magic and a show stopping tribute to Elvis himself.

Fabulous meal--, all to help support a life-changing cause. You can bid online---for auctions---and help this organizations that will be celebrating its 70th Anniversary. We talked about the boys at the ranch---Vegas-worthy photo ops and bid on exclusive items during the exciting live and silent auction. We’ll follow along as we have in previous years. It’s about the boys—and 7 decades of service is something to be very proud of.
