Blog---June 9, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business show this morning continued with a real life changing discussion on the Waters of South Dakota---and how with the legislation passed the South Dakota Lawmakers this year—lakes like Lake Madison and others across this great state beginning July 1st will be utilizing the same kind of laws that neighboring states have been doing for years.
Those driving, steering, controlling a boat will be required to have gone thru the course to get a license. Unfortunately an accident claimed the life of a 12 year girl----Emmy Gorman. The accident roughly 2 years ago---brought together the Lake Madison Development Association ---who with the help of Larry Kotten---long-time Lake Resident, Casey Crabtree---leader in the South Dakota Legislature and members of the Lake Madison Development Association.
It was in this years session of the Legislature—that a bill was passed to toughen the requirements for operating motor boats on not only Lake Madison but every lake and water-way in South Dakota.
This weekend –June 14th--- Water Safety will be taught---and with the help of Lake leaders, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks---it will lead to the July 1st date for the Water Regulations to go into effect.
We’ll continue to talk with the Gorman family---Eric Gorman—the Father on Wednesday----along with Congressman Tim Walburg who served as Lake County’s veteran sheriff for 12 years.
We’ll continue to follow thru July 1st when the law takes effect and plan to continue to do safety segments during the summer.
In this show—Elaine Garry—President of the Lake Madison Development Association joined us to talk about the work being done and importance of never letting this kind of accident happen here or in the 3,000 or whatever number of lakes there are in South Dakota.
Friday Daniel Buresh—first responder on the scene of the accident did some videos with the Gorman family. He was responsible for getting Senate Bill 8 started and was the first guy to contact Congressman Walburg and Senator Crabtree.
Nolan Clarke—Plains Commerce Bank (yes one of the planners) talked about what they do to help those in agriculture, in business, the young married, older married, or the singles get the best they can.
Matt Swenson---Swenson Commodities—gave us our first look at the morning grain, meat, energy, and yes the Big Board on Wall Street.
Jessie Fonkert---an old friend who is more than a little busy in State matters joined us this morning as we talked about all that is going on and how he is utilizing what he does best----communicate events—and even talk to broadcasters like Bill Zortman.
Rock Nelson was back with the Rock Report---his guest Adam Broin—who has a rather unique cuff-links business. We talked a little about what he does---and he having spent time in Texas---he and I talked about my time in television in the lone star state---and how someway I was responsible for hosting statewide TV debates in that state that for the first time in 50 years elected a Republican Governor Bill Clements. Clements after he won by a whisker—promised me the first interview the day that he was inaugurated as Governor in Austin. He kept his word-----and yes I was part of history in that great state.
Broin will be back and we’ll compare cuff-links---and share what he is doing to help link South Dakota.
Mr. Tree John Ball----was just out for a stroll this morning—but most times when Bill Zortman calls he listeners and becomes a part of the Agri Business Show. We talked this morning about how to identify when the Emerald Ash Borer has made the days numbered for your backyard tree or trees. He promised a visit as my current hometown –Hartford has been identified as having the critter. Should the tree be removed---as Mrs. Zortman and neighbors are looking at. We’ll let you know when he comes calling with a house call.
Rocky Forman----will be in our studios on Tuesday along with his case of Farmers Union characters for monthly show. It’s the time of year that center-stage includes our Farm Organizations—and I look forward to working with Doug Sombke, Rocky and the other guests for the June 2025 show.
Justin Glisin—Iowa State Climatologist joined us this morning---just before he joins the Minnesota Climatologist, and South Dakota’s Laura Edwards at a nationwide conference in Kansas City. He always take time to explain to us what to expect—will it be more smoke, some rain, or sunshine? Justin has the answer---and seems to enjoy talking with this Iowan (that’s me) about what to expect and when.
Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO App—streaming on line or just access 1320. Norm Anderson posts the show as a podcast--- on the KELO AM Website—my job is to schedule the guests, prepare questions and answers expected, and ask the questions.
