Blog---June 6, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show----did some early morning recordings so we could include our guests.
In 20 minutes ---we were able to tape Congressman Dusty Johnson, Ag PHD’s Darren Hefty, and SD House Leader---Casey Crabtree.
Congressman Johnson talked about a Town Hall Meeting that took up the so-called Big Beautiful Bill---yes there were lots of questions---and we were able to talk about that meeting, Medicaid which has health organizations already warning their patients—to make plans and in essence get more coverage from them.
Plus the disagreements and fears that South Dakotans have----with decisions being made –which appears to be not for them----but those much more well to do.
The Congressman understands there is a lot of fear out there for what is being pushed and not promised---and to have him on the air talking and answering OUR QUESTIONS---and letting him talk to his constituents. We did have him share what he is seeing and hearing from South Dakota Leaders in DC—John Thune and Kristi Noem. They are in the spotlight—and not always given the best Q & A from the media. He shared that they do talk frequently—and that he is comfortable they are doing a good job.
Darren Hefty—Ag PHD –talked to us about his kids and grandkids cutting grass and seeing that it is taking twice a week. At the same time---alfalfa is growing quickly as well. Corn has him concerned along with farmers. He does a daily media show that plays nationwide. Daily---and the Hefty’s are well known. They are also working on scholarships that will be given—something we will continue to promote. It is all about passing the torch to the next generation.
Casey Crabtree—spent part of the week in Washington DC---he was looking in on the House and Senate—getting some insight to where things stood----and of course not hurting himself in getting an education on how things are done in the House and Senate on a national scope.
Casey is also a part of our work with those people from Lake Madison who lost a 12 year old girl ---2 years ago in a boating accident. Since then Casey and Larry Kotten---were among those that helped push a new safety law that passed the Legislature this last year. It will go in effect on all South Dakota Waters---July 1st---and they are having safety training coming up at Lake Madison –and with GFP on June 14th.
Later in the show we visited with Jamie and Brandon Hodne ---with South Dakota Marine on Lake Madison---they are promoting the safety side of this and quite frankly they get a lot of credit for what will become law in South Dakota—much like it already is in neighboring states.
Next week we will continue to promote the training on the water---and help make as many people aware of the law before the July 4th holiday weekend.
We talked as with Alla who moved her from Ukraine---14 or so years ago—and her family has followed. Each Friday for roughly the last 3+ years we have talked about Alla her family and others from Ukraine who have moved to South Dakota. We have followed along in other South Dakota locations that talked the Ukrainian workforce---- and needing them in this state. I have and continue to be impressed with what businesses see in Ukrainians. Good reason for us to keep following.
Taryn Sietsema----updated us on the events in Downtown Sioux Falls this weekend. We had a chance to learn—and list for our listeners---something we try to do every Friday.
Justin Glisin---Iowa State Climatologist talked with us about the smoke from Canada. Possibility of rain---and the fact that he and other climatologists –including Laura Edwards---from South Dakota will be in conference next week in Kansas City---we expect to talk with them—and perhaps Minnesota Climatologists as well.
Our It’s OUR Agri Business show is available 10-11—Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Ag is the number one industry in South Dakota—but not all of our listeners are just from South Dakota. We get messages and calls from those over a number of sections of the country---and we know that what we do in agriculture in South Dakota is important.
We did giveaway passes to the Wild Water West---Waterpark----a pair of evening passes—that runs thru September 1st.
The third caller was the choice that Norm Anderson wanted—and we had it as quick as he could answer the call.
Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show gives a chance for those in agriculture---and leading agriculture to be a part of our ag audience. We work hard to bring the news and important information that help those in ag as well as those they serve.
