Blog---June 2, 2025—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
It’s YOUR Agri Business Show—1st Monday of the month includes Chuck Sutton---Mr. Auction and Jim Schmidt---Mr. Lincoln County. It follows either the Report Card or Remodelers Show—and gives our listeners a whole new approach to the very important figures on building permits----
Mr. Sutton has been in the auction business for so many years—that want he speaks or says sold—it means something. It’s the trending and our audience whether it be the rural area or town’s/cities---get the feel as what is happening in the sales much like the Report Card and Remodelers Show does with the homes.
Chuck shares that the busiest time of year for auctions is in the A-months---could be homes---acreages or you pick it. There is no doubt with all the years he has been THE AUCTIONEER---he knows what to expect—how to handle the clients---buying and selling---and certainly what the trends are.
Jim Schmidt---and I visit a lot of time---we talk about what is going on in Lincoln County---and why it is important. I’ve known he and his wife for many years---and when they speak---I’m very good at listening. Right now the talk is around the Old Courthouse Building Task Force—what they are going to ---and the thought is something will need to happen. It is much more likely that something will get done with Courthouse Building—then what was at one time---every other sentence being around locating of the State Prison. That seems to have faded---the same with Minnehaha County----
I do spend some time with Jim listening other than on the radio show---I’m curious what is being discussed—and what we can do to help all parties understand where everything is coming from and where it will go. Stay tuned—I’m listening again this week to Lincoln County.
Brent Baloun---Plains Commerce Bank joined us as we talked about Planning----those on the farm, in business, the older and the younger side too. They work with all---and we know that the PLANNERS make a difference in so many ways—that even the bigger banks could take some lessons.
Sarah Heinrich---had the KFGO Growing Harvest Network---Matt Swenson checked the morning commodities-and yes the Big Board on Wall Street.
Gail Gullickson talked to us about the USD issuing $1billion in payments to eligible livestock producers thru the Emergency Livestock Relief Program (ELRP) for losses due to qualifying drought and qualifying wildfire occurring in calendar years 2023 and 2024. FSA will calculate payments using data already submitted to FSA by Livestock Forage Disaster Program participants. Emergency relief payments are automatically issued for producers who have an approved LFP application on file for 2023 and/or 2024.
Karla Trotman---announced her retirement from SDSU last week. We wanted to catch-up on all that she did for years---and beginning July 1st she will be missed. I find what she has done—and how she did it intriguing. So did those she worked with in the classrooms and farms.
John Ball—Yes Mr. Tree was with us----we didn’t get him in our Friday Show—because the host (Me) didn’t shorten enough of the guests to get Tree on the show. I agreed to make it up to him with the Monday show—and now he was making me feel like I brought in. I didn’t get him on—and over the weekend they found in my Hometown of Hartford—that the emerald ash borer had struck the trees. Tree shared the bugs are green ----you don’t have to cut the trees –maybe spray them and do what you can to get rid of them.
Justin Glisin---Iowa State Climatologist talked to us about the weather expectations for June. Justin and South Dakota’s Laura Edwards share helping us understand and explain what the weather is expected to do. Warmest days of summer are towards the end of June and into July and August. We will have to watch even more closely.
Our Agri Business Show—provides ag leanings----if not flat our agriculture importance. It’s number one industry in South Dakota-and doggone important in Iowa and Minnesota as well.
