Blog---June 11, 2025—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday

Working on Wellness Wednesday---9-10---on this particular day had us talking about a lot of Wellness---including what happens on the South Dakota Waterways July 1st---with the help of Saturday the 14th safety on the education on the lake date.

Very interesting that our Business, Agri Business—Working on Wellness Wednesday ---was able to talk about the tragedy on Lake Madison----2 years ago that claimed Emmy----12 years old----who was hit by a boat---after falling off her ski’s. It took her life---the family was devastated ----and almost 2 years later---businesses came together—lawmakers passed a safety law on the water that will be close to water neighboring states have been doing for a long time. In essence—GFP is working with businesses—law enforcement and lawmakers for what takes effect on July 1st---we are told on every water-way in South Dakota.

We have done what we can with our radio show---while encouraging other media to get involved---and help all that are concerned about not losing another life with virtually no laws on our water-ways.

We know that Larry Kotten, Casey Crabtree, Former Sheriff Tim Wahlberg, so many businesses, and Game Fish and Parks are together on this----our Friday show will be using the 10-11 hour to talk about all that will happen---and why those utilizing the water for 4th of July and the other 364 days---will know laws will be enforced.

Our hope is to provide reminders and encouragement to all those who enjoy the great outdoors.

Joe Kippley along with Jamie Roggenbauer—joined us to talk about the City of Sioux Falls Health Department. The concern right now is Mosquito Control and between our leaders---we learned West Nile is always a concern----and that particularly thru June Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness is being watched.

Director Kippley –watches closely—shares his discoveries with us and we know that mosquitos are out and about—they can cause West Nile----and you have to eliminate the standing water in bowls, cans, and buckets that could be the breeding zone for the baby mosquitos. We encourage people to be vigilant---get rid of that standing water---and make sure your family whether 93 –53 or 3---are protected.

June is also Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month—a key moment to highlight what to watch out for.

Measles showing up in West Texas all the way north to South Dakota. Something you don’t want to have. Our job is to alert you on what you can do to protect yourself.

Sue Thesenga----is not so old a friend—but they have 7 chapters, 5 blood centers, in the Dakotas and Minnesota.

Today ironically is World Blood Donor Day---and 7.3 million are served in the Dakotas and Minnesota. Sue talked about giving blood---and making sure we continue to provide them the resources of people sticking their arm how—taking a little poke---and giving the gift of life. Sue as she usually does—talks me thru---as the guinea pig----how to give—were to give---and how to make sure when they test whether my blood is useable—to take a little iron before you get tested. Our job is raise the awareness----and encourage people to give. That we do---and yes having headed up the Red Cross in South Dakota and Nebraska years ago---I still stick my arm out and try to make sure the supply of blood is as plentiful as possible.

Cindy Coates---worked with us today on the day that was a big deal at Harris Elementary. Beginning at 8AM this morning until late in the day---a number of local businesses and nonprofit organizations came together to build 2 teaching garden beds another  station may have 4. Having worked with Cindy thru the years---I know she does good work---and she is headed west to set up a similar scene in West River. She will still be talking to us about East River—and we’ll continue to follow along to see if can provide a living laboratory for students and teachers to learn stewardship of natural resources and their own education.

Yes we will follow along—and see what West River discoveries that might be used here in East River.

Our It’s YOUR Business Show—yes Working on Wellness Wednesday does our part with Sanford and Avera---but there are other stories out there that we follow. It’s what we do.

Questions for me—feel free to call/text/or email me---we would like to consider what you are doing with health care to be a part of what we share with our audience. Medical can’t be the same old thing—we want to learn and teach---for our audience. Having been married to a nurse for years—she has taught me---while I learn from all those that are a part of the show.
