We like to start with Tim Ridgway---the USD Sanford School of Medicine Vice President for Health Affairs----Dr. Ridgway as it turns out is an old family friend----and between the two of us we have found new avenues to utilize to talk Working on Wellness---

   Dr. Ridgway –good morning

---In mid-July we will be welcoming 71 new members to our medical school family.

We are doing some innovative things this year to welcome them and get them oriented.

You share you want to discuss your personal message to them---in essence what to expect and we want them to become over the next 4 years.

The orientation activities culminate with the White Coat Ceremony which is always quite the moving event.

I liked what you are continuing to do---so lets get into this so our audience---can learn this morning as well---

9:17/30---Wellness Wednesday 2

Dr. Joshua Jordee joins us this morning----

As usual I asked my girls if they had any suggestions for what to talk about today.

My 14 year old said people need to be careful when bending over to pickup spend fireworks parts to avoid hurting their backs.

My 8 year old said I should talk about weight loss…

Unfortunately the former can be summarized as simply as squad to pick up fireworks trash rather than bending.

Te former is just way to in depth to cram into 8 radio minutes.

So left to my own devices, I realized that just this last week—I saw one of my oldest patients—92---and one of my youngest patients 3 weeks. I’m also reminded that Dr. Olson just recently saw a patient of his as well as her child who had since back when she was younger than her own child is now. It all reminded me of just how important chiropractic can be at all stages in life---often in very different ways, but fundamentally all the same way.

At the foundation, chiropractic is always about restoring proper nerve function by removing subluxations which are subtle misalignments, smaller than a dislocation, and fixations of joints which result in irritation or, in rare cases, constriction of the nerves that pass by the joints and require their motion and proper function in order to properly function.

When it comes to infants, the main source of subluxation is trauma within the womb or sometimes during the birthing process itself. In toddlers, its often the dozens of falls daily while learning to walk. In children it is  also usually falls while playing and sometimes rough-housing as well. In teens it begins to be more posture oriented which along with general traumas, are the main causes going forward in life, too. However the farther in life one goes, sometimes chronic issues become compounded and especially from around middle age onward, lead to degeneration especially in the form of osteoarthritis.

As for some particular conditions chiropractic can help with at those varying ages, from teens thru adults, the most commonly known are aches and pains and headaches, though some of the best studied organic conditions chiropractic can help with are digestive issues, high blood pressure and vertigo. For infants, however the most common conditions are colic including caused by digestive issues. Latching issues can also be resolved with chiropractic. In toddlers and children, the most well studied conditions chiropractic is shown to help with are recurrent ear infections as well as bed wetting. In seniors, the main benefit of chiropractic, other than also helping with aches and pains, is improving overall mobility and can also help maintain balance.

And of course there’s several other health care professions and advice that work with chiropractic care to help people be as functional as they can be including giving information on stretches and exercises. For example, Dr. Plueger will be putting on an in-house talk tomorrow—Thursday July 2nd at 6PM at our office.

Special of which our office—Jorde Chiropractic Clinic is located at 2821 S. Center Ave in Sioux Falls. You can find us online at jordechiropractic.com where you can RSVP for the seminar tomorrow under the events tab or even book in online thru the website. Our phone number is 605-335-0880.
