I’m Bill Zortman and WELCOME to It’s YOUR Agri Business—Show 50-98 in our ORIGINAL It’s YOUR Business Series.

We have combined a working on Wellness Wednesday and the #1 industry in South Dakota----A-G-R-I-C-U-L-T-U-R-E

Casey Crabtree is working the Pierre side----and we have lots of ag to talk about-----

Let’s get started as he did early morning taping this with us---

((((CASEY CRABTREE----Taped Segment))))

---we’ll check more from the Legislature later in this hour—

--------As we promised at the start of our First Hour this morning---It is a Working on Wellness Wednesday----and with February being Heart Month---we wanted to not only inspire the hearts in the 9-10 Wellness Wednesday Show---but in Agriculture as well-----

  Joining us is  Shelly---Dakota Abilities-----

With the legislative session taking place in Pierre, I want to provide listeners with context about how Community Support Providers in South Dakota help save taxpayer dollars, and why it’s important to have legislative support. There are 21 CSPs in the state, geographically intentional to help people and families stay close to home.

CSPs are funded through a mix of Medicaid funding, grants, and private donations.

When people with disabilities live and participate in the community, the whole community becomes stronger.

  • Community Support Providers help people with disabilities live full, independent lives, right here in our community. They want what we all want – a home, relationships, purpose, routine
  • When people are supported locally instead of institutional settings, everyone wins – the individuals themselves, their families, and taxpayers.

Community Support Providers don’t just support individuals – we keep families stable and working.

  • Without community-based services like ours, many families would have no option but to leave the workplace to provide full-time care, leading to lost wages and an increased reliance on public assistance.
  • Providers allow caregivers to work, pay taxes, and contribute to the economy

Community Support Providers prevent costly crisis care – it’s far more cost-effective to support someone every day than to respond after a crisis.

  • Regular support from trained staff and professionals prevents ER room visits, hospital stays and crisis placements, all of which are extremely expensive.
  • Consistent daily support helps people stay stable and healthy.
  • Preventive care always costs less than emergency intervention

Safe, accessible housing is preventative care.

  • Reduces homelessness, hospitalizations, and institutional placements
  • When people have safe homes with the right supports, they’re less likely to need costly interventions later.

Community Support Providers are good employers.

  • We employ direct support professionals, administrators, and specialists – local jobs with local paychecks
  • Those employees spend money locally strengthening the local economy
  • Strong providers equal a strong local workforce

Supporting people with disabilities with safety, consistent care, and dignity is a smart investment in our state.
