Blog----February 12, 2025—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday

Quite the working on Wellness Wednesday. And from what we hear from the USD School of Medicine -we may have just done the first of it’s kind event.

But we started the show with Joe Kippley—Sioux Falls Dept of Health---they were doing with Sanford—with Avera and others a special event this morning on community health assessments.

As we were told this were the individuals speaking at 10:30

Joe Kippley—Sioux Falls Health Department DirectorDr. Ronald Place—Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center President & CEOAndy Munce—Sanford USD Medical Center Interim President & CEODr. Timothy Pendergrass, Sioux Falls VA Health Care System Chief of StaffDr. Jennifer Tinguely, City of Sioux Falls Chief Medical Officer

The idea was to cover the event an hour before—learn what we could and at the same time---promote what you would expect the news media to cover in their events today.

Mr. Kippley pointed out his topics:

Fluoride in drinking water---SB133 would have reregulated thisPublic Health benefits of fluoride in the drinking water and how the City of Sioux Falls monitors for safe amounts of fluoride

Mr. Kippley explained the do a health assessment that shares information and we always wonder what will come of it.

Kippley and I will be in Pierre next Wednesday---for Sioux Falls Day at the Capital. Kippley and others will ride the bus---and my Sales Business Partner Dave Scaturro and I will be driving up and will do a 9-11 show from the Capital Rotunda---just down the hall from here Governor Noem was and now Governor Rhoden has taken up office space.

The South Dakota State Health Director---Melissa Magstadt---has promised to be with us live and we may do a segment with Joe and Melissa as well. It gives us a chance to talk health care---and they have been very helpful to make sure our audience gets their fair share of healthy information as well.

Right behind—the City Health Director—today was Dr. Tim Ridgway---the Dean at the South Dakota School of Medicine. It is a Sanford tie---and with 72 first year students in Pierre for the legislative event---today we wanted to know what they thought, how were the law-makers and did it leave an impression. Dr. Ridgway started the segment then we brought two of the students before 9:29---and added two additional med students between 9:32 and 9:44----it made you feel proud to hear from the students—one from Brandon—the other was from Fargo---two more added in the 2nd hour. What to me is touching  is how the lawmakers inter-acted with the students. What we do know is that it gave them a lasting impression. USD is the ONLY School in the country that takes their med students to the State Legislative Session----and that makes the first med students who were on the air with us today---a 1st in the country. Glad we could be involved and perhaps make it an even bigger deal.

Carolyn Hansen joined us this morning to highly South Dakota FFA Celebrating National FFA Week—February 15th to the 22nd.

112 chapters and over 6500 members make up the South Dakota FFA. National FFA Week embraces more than 95 years of FFA traditions while looking forward to the organization’s future. More than 1,027,000 members with a passion for agriculture will participate in activities at local, state and national  levels.

As Gerri Eide explained—they enjoy any time when we can help educate the public about agriculture so having a week designated to the cause is valuable to all of us.

Our It’s YOUR Business or Working on Wellness Wednesday Show—gives us a chance to work together—share information ---and my guess is find more than want to be engaged in FFA.

Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9—use the KELO App—Streaming on line or just ask Alexa. Norm Anderson will post the show as a PODCAST—look for the February 12, 2025—9-10 show. Use these blog notes as a guide to what is in the show and what the topics were about.
