Blog-December 27, 2024—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business
Lots to talk about in the Ag front----
Darren Hefty—Ag PHD—led the way---he talked about the year’s end---what 2024 has brought and came up a little short on.
Some are looking at cash accounts—others looking at what’s in the grain bin.
With a new Presidential flag on the White House---what do we see with a lack of a farm bill---
We discussed how to know what to expect in 2025? Still a lot to answer and watch with our own eyes.
Darren talked about the next generation----what they should expect—and how we need to work to make it the best we can.
Brandon Hansen—talked about pork competition coming up in January—or is it beef. Go to the restaurants—and vote for your favorite and when the winners are selected we’ll let you know. Always new recipes making a difference.
Speaking of meat---we talked with Lyon County’s Dwight Mogler---about the work he is doing to get pork cuts into the top restaurants. He has a plan---the wife and family have agreed to go for it---and you can bet—we’ll follow along because Mog’s does with his meat dishes---others can follow along. We’ll be talking with him next month as well.
Mary Michaels---AARP gave us some Town N Country News.
She asked what’s on the minds of Older South Dakotans. When it comes to aging, South Dakotans are concerned about their Social Security benefits, having enough income or savings to retire and being able to afford groceries or other household necessities. You might want to find a copy of 2024 Vital Voices Survey---what’s on the minds of older South Dakotans?
Mary hoped that you don’t let scammers Take the Happy Out of Your Holidays. AARP Fraud Watch Network Helpline can help you with suspected fraud. And 3 in 4 adults in the US have experienced or been targeted by at least one form of fraud tied to the holiday days.
We’ll work with Mary during the legislative session. We’ll add her and AARP on those watching lawmakers and interrupting what they do or don’t do.
Sarah Heinrich---KFGO Fargo—shared the Growing Harvest Network----Matt Swenson followed with the morning Commodities.
Dwight Mogler—Mr. Lyon County shared some pork product samples that he brought to the Windy City---from his Pig Hill West Sow here. He is working with broadcasters---those raising the animals---and looking for some of the best restaurants to feature when he has raised. It is important to have your family say “Go for it”. He is----and we will be following along with some of the best promoters in Iowa and right here in Sioux Falls South Dakota. He even gave me a sample to taste---and report back next Friday –when he talked to us from the Eastern part of the USA. We have followed him for a long time—did a show with him in Lyon County in the fall----and if there is anything the ag community needs is a Mogler---and Steve Larson—knocking on the door in Chicago in early January to follow with initial prospects. We will keep you posted on his progress as he develops a supply chain relationship. The family’s great pork product derived from Topigs Norsvin swine genetic lines to target markets. The pork product samples that they brought to the Windy City came from the Pig Hill West Sow herd. The PHW here is comprised of the global pork industry’s leading F1 female—your TN70 – shie is “our lady” an incredibly reproductive, robust and resilient mother – the product of TN’s foundational maternal lines---the Norsvin Landrace crossed with the Z-Line Large White/Yorkshire.
The docility and caloric efficiency traits of the TN70 females crossed with the TN Duroc—one of the world’s leading growth oriented and superior meat quality terminal board lines, produces an incredible commercial market hog to fulfill their supply agreements with their pork packer/harvest partners.
When you talk with Mr. Mogler—the are incredibly excited about the opportunities they are pursuing to bring the quality pork products further down the market supply chain-beyond the farm gate and onto the plates of consumers who appreciate juicy and tender red meat that pleases their palates with the taste and flavor they long for.
We’ll follow along as pleases like Morrie’s, Minerva’s, Crawfords, 801 Chop House and yes the Iowa Machine Shed in Des Moines.
We also visited for the last time in 2024---Alla---yes the Ukraine the topic---the advances Ukrainians have made with the public in South Dakota this year. The number of leaders that are wanting more of the hardworking Ukrainians in South Dakota. We have followed Alla for years as her family slowly came to South Dakota. McCrossan Boys Ranch, Lawmakers, and businesses have followed along. We’ll continue to follow in 2025.
