Blog—December 12, 2025—9-10—It’s YOUR Business
Quite the show for the “Family Friendly Fare” on It’s YOUR Business 9-10 on Friday.
We have been doing this for nearly 10 years---and what a collection of story lines and event to make a difference.
Jodi Schwan---Sioux Falls Business starts us out---and today she was sharing on the Avera McKennan construction, a big new addition for downtown welcoming its first customers on this day, a new addition for downtown at Pomegranate Market was opening at Cherapa Place---and yes the fun one—the new Reptile Adventure Zoo was opening today—even with the snow surge.
Jessie Schmidt—BBB of South Dakota—was telling us about the business and consumer resources, the benefit of ACCREDITATION, Roof Coating and sealing contractions, and how to file—when to file and what to expect—with the people to call—the Better Business Bureau. Stay out of trouble and be informed.
Teri Schmidt---was asking the audience questions we were all concerned about---Hotel Sales were not what they have been or not considered UP to NORMAL. Off 8%---as are many other communities sweating the bottom lines as well.
From South Dakota—GAME Fish and Parks—Kip Rounds---updated the great outdoors that with today’s expectations—its going to be called a snowy December ---but we always get the numbers that includes the weather conditions—
Many have wrapped up the deer season, there is plenty of pheasant season left and ice fishing is just getting started. Many believe that the holiday season is the best time to make new family traditions spending time in the great outdoors.
We heard from Ron Nelson---Nelson Commercial Real Estate---as Nellie explained we have been waiting for this week because this was the week the Federal Reserve-met to discuss it they need to cut interest rates again. After the last cut, some predicted that would be it---but things have not gotten much better so last few weeks, the tide shifted again and they DID feel a cut would probably happen and it did—it was the 3rd cut—each a quarter point or 25 basis points—100 basic points is 1%. The cuts have done little to revive the economy—it helps but evidently –it’s deeper.
Sioux Metro Growth Alliance held a seminar with the hot topic AI—energy was close---there was discussion on electric, gas LNG, solar wind, nuclear and the growth of data centers.
With all of that Sioux Falls will have it’s 2nd Best Year in building permits and yet so many businesses are struggling.
Brandon Hanson shared what’s happening in Downtown Sioux Falls---It’s shaping up to be another full weekend with a mix of music, classes, holiday activities, and good opportunities to shop local.
Downtown Gives is brought to you by First Interstate bank is still underway. The coupon books are going fast, and once they’re gone, that’s it for the year. For $15 you get access to deals at dozens of downtown shops, restaurants. And salons, and the proceeds support a local nonprofit.
