Blog—December 12, 2025—10-11-It’s YOUR AG Business

Ag Business is the #1 industry in South Dakota—a pretty doggone good reason that we do ½ our shows as Agri Business.

In this show we talked with Darren Hefty—Ag PHD –he was headed to Minnesota to talk with a farm group—and he was sharing much of what not to do as to do. Darren is not only the pride and joy of South Dakota but does a nationwide radio show---television shows---and makes for a ag voice we really enjoy working with.

We talked about things to do to reach the next generation----encouraging them to be the next players that will make a difference with agriculture. Passing the torch to the next generation includes having them engaged, encouraged, and expecting to be difference directors in 2025 and 2026 and beyond.

I threw in my dad and his brothers always wanted to get their boys (and a few girls) into farming. Some did—some didn’t in---but for the most part—engagement is a key and you can bet that work was used by Darren a lot in Minnesota.

Rocky Forman—who helped us put together quite the guest list for the South Dakota Farmers Union convention this week—returned to do a wrap up on this Friday show. Big turn—out included National President Rob Larew, SD Governor Larry Rhoden, leaders sharing how the states can work together---and yes even young people who liked being saluted as the best of the young.

Gerri Eide—FFA of South Dakota introduced us to Adeline a Freshman from McCook Central—who shared what a first year high schoolers can do. The audience had to be impressed as well about how much she had done in year one and what she wanted to do in the years ahead. Our plan is to not only cover the heavily saturated groups for FFA---but honor young people every month of the 2026 year.

Congressman Dusty Johnson joined us and talked agriculture—how much good news could mean to the farm community----and a few other things he has been doing in DC—with all the “give me” stuff all walks of life want from their elected officials.

Matt Swenson—had our morning commodities for Swenson Commodities----we talked with Brent Grosvenor—Lights Up Production that has attracted 4000 attending their performances with 4 more performance ahead for the week. The Prince of Peace—makes us think—and realize –there is much more to life—and one of them is the Lights Up Production and the meaning that goes with it.

As we do on Friday –we talked with All Kureninova—who with her family moved to South Dakota from Ukraine. We have followed along with state leaders who have shared the Ukrainian stories people from border to border---and those wanting the hard working Ukrainians ---were able to get many—that are still making quite the difference in the work force. I’ve been impressed in the 5 or so meetings I’ve attended around South Dakota—including the State Fair---and other stops. It comes at a time that Ukraine is still battling for their lives and livelihood –and the Ukrainians are earning great work reputations---as they survive all the challenge thrown at them by the Trump Administration including Kristi Noem---former Governor of South Dakota.

We heard from Justin Glisin—the Iowa State Climatologist—he shared what they are seeing—what we should be expecting for the weekend----and how Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota Climatologists work together.

Listen live to the show at 1320, 105.1, 107.9---use the KELO-APP—streaming on line or just ask. Norm Anderson posts the podcast---I write the blog—schedule the guests and we continue counting at 5062 shows that we done on our radio station. Bankers and business leaders have Congressman Dusty Johnson posted a plaque of what we have done and the number of shows in the Congressional resources of the USA. That is special—and we’ll continue to work –family health permitting to help those in South Dakota with this radio show—Questions for me—feel free to call/text at 605-728-2455 (BILL) or email me at bill.zortman@mwcradio.com
