Blog-August 12, 2022—9-10—It’s YOUR Business

Not a First Friday----but it is the 2nd and Final Friday—of the 2022—Sioux Empire Fair.

Most of the Fair Stuff---except a few comments but our guests in this hour will be in the 10:00 Show—including an overall wrap---and the number of new born for the Pipestone System with Sylvia Wolters.

Jodi Schwan—Sioux Falls Business has some thoughts on location changes of some of the businesses—rental even with new buildings only improved slightly—more teens were working this summer and SURPRISE SURPRISE—many will continue to work---there is a Mid-year Bender Report---and Dave is at it again---add an AUSTAD’s in Des Moines---my home STATE CAPITAL will NEVER be the SAME.

Jessie Schmidt—BBB of South  Dakota---talks ROMANCE SCAMS. Sorry to say there are a lot of those.

Not only happens here—but in Lincoln Nebraska—Jessie will share a couple of examples—share how they worked—and surprisingly it is not only WOMEN that get scammed—in this case a 56 year old man.

Jessie has talked about these thru the years---and many will believe it could never happen to them----Jessie is one to tell you –even the smartest of those in business get taken too. What should you watch out for ----what happens if you get taken –is there recourse you can follow?

9:20---South Dakota Game Fish and Parks---Emmett is attending a regional meeting Thursday and this morning---but he didn’t leave the cupboard bare—he has Josh Vanden Bosch—Conversation Officer for Lincoln County—based in Canton.

Josh has been working with the local SF Delta Waterfowl Chapter (one of the non-governmental waterfowl conservation organizations) – to host a youth duck hunt in an  effort to encourage young people and their families to take up the sport of waterfowl hunting.

It may surprise you to learn this morning---that there has been a decline in duck hunters over the years and as you’ll recall from many of the conversations in the past, recruiting to members into hunting is CRITICAL from both the funding for conservation programs perspective (license fees) but also from the perspective of creating advocates for conservation, in this case, advocating for waterfowl habitat like wetlands and upland nesting cover.

Vanden Bosch will tell us how they organize their hunt, how many kids and dads might be involved, where they hunt and the importance of teaching safe hunting practices.

9:32---Ron Nelson (yes old NELLIE) is in the loop this morning –and we’ll do a little Fair Talking---

He is a good one to set on the Fair Task Force—and he will share the Fair’s Future---and the discussions on what is really fascinating real estate  as a case study.

He’ll share what he sees on the Task Force—and I’ll share what I was told on the Air AT THE FAIR –about no one really having the appetite to make a move—even though thousands of dollars are being spent “to band-aide”  the site and the building.

9:45---we’ll visit with Bill Earley with the Link---and what all they are doing—he’ll talk triage—where the link is located—how to people come to the Link—Ambulance—car—by themselves or a family member/friend?

With no money, no mission—how are the finances in Year 2---what’s next for The Link?

There is a Community Advisory Council---he calls some community partners involved with that as EXCELLENT.

We’ll look for some patient stories that can be discussed---and how do get to the Website.

We close the hour with Diana Patterson—Sanford Career Opportunities—Sioux Falls and beyond. This morning right off the top---Patient Financial Services.

There is a real need for Nurses—Doctors of course—and many other professions—our job is to help connect in our short span to close our shows on Friday.
