Blog-August 10, 2022—9-10—Sioux Empire Fair

Big day for us at the Sioux Empire Fair—gathering leaders to salute those in Agriculture as part of the Annual Appreciation Luncheon.

    Mayor Paul Ten Haken

    Ag Secretary Hunter Roberts

    Darren Hefty—AG PHD

Jim Woster---Mr. Agriculture—in a 30 minute to discussion and salute to agriculture from 10:06 to 10:36.

In this hour Scott Wick and Julie Hammer start the show with what to expect for lunch and other activities on this 6th day of the Sioux Empire Fair.

Right behind is Sylvia Wolters or Alisha—with an update on the number of new babies that have been born with a story or two about the kids and what they saw.

From Avera—an old friend—Deb Muller---she will give us the way to understand the IRA Bill –what it means for the health insurance marketplace.

What is affected is the RX Drugs and Health Insurance. The bill takes on making prescription drugs more affordable but there are some limits—that we will discuss.

In essence the bill puts a cap of $2000 on out-of-pocket prescription drugs for people on Medicare effective in 2025. There’s also a 3 year extension on healthcare subsidies in the Affordable Care Act. It would help millions of Americans avoid spikes in their health care costs.

9:32---we will visit with Randy Sprunk about Wholestone.

It is a modern plant ---we’ll talk about improvements—how the State-The City-The County—Chamber all endorsed this project years ago----now it faces a petition drive that has an election called for November. There is even a challenged raised at the small butcher shop that was announced. We’ll get the latest—hear about how this is different than your parents pork plant---and give you some straight information. They are set up to talk near the luncheon set up for the Sioux Empire Fair—Wholestone is a sponsor.

Coming up next week we’ll be at Dakota Fest—one of the sponsors is SD Farm Bureau. This morning Lowell Messman will talk to us about the event and other Farm Bureau Projects.

We’ll also check a couple of features like the French fry contest---the meat wagon and even Old McDonald’s Farm.

To get us ready for the luncheon---Holly Radar and President Jay from Sioux Valley Energy will share what to look for and what is really important..
