Blog-April 30, 2024-9-10—It’s YOUR Business
Our last 9:00 show for April—gave us a chance to go several different directions and we were happy to set the stage for events that are happening or will.
City Councilman Marshall Selberg---who has been a part of our It’s YOUR Business show for the 8 years he has been part of the Sioux Falls City Council—helped us set the stage for a runoff election day with Jordan Deffenbaugh—Partner Developer BAM Institute –and Richard Thomason—Relationship Manager Central Bank.
Both looking for votes today—to get the majority needed to capture the last of the Council seats not decided a few weeks ago.
Our job---encourage people that are eligible to go vote---and if you are a part of Sioux Metro Alliance—those that are running-off today---get out and vote.
It gave us a chance to share some of the descriptions the Sioux Falls Chamber shared with voters and yes the media---reminding us to get off our couches and get people to the polls.
While we read some of the beliefs each candidate had---we had a chance to talk to Councilman Selberg on what he did in his two terms. Talking to voters---making decisions and representing the City at the State Legislature—and meetings nationwide. There he listened to what others were learning and telling what Sioux Falls was doing.
We’ll continue working with council people and government players in other cities---in counties---in the legislature—and nationwide.
We need more than 7% to take time to vote today---though the odds are—it will be even less.
Congressman Dusty Johnson as well. He was able to shed a little light on what people are asking him to do as the states only US Representative. He was just given a national Hero’s Award—working to fix the nation’s budget process---we wanted to know his thoughts—what he had done---what he thought as well about the nationwide publicity Governor Noem is getting for years ago shooting her dog that had killed neighbors chickens----and just being anything but a woman’s best friend. Nationwide the media is jumping in----they are helping selling Kristi’s book that is out----while at the same time keeping her political interests in the center of the table.
Jaime Wood---SBA of South Dakota—joined us from Rapid City with Happy National Small Business Week.
Winners are being named across the state.  In Sioux Falls—SBA SD Small Business Persons of the Year—are father-son team—Nick and Greg Heineman—co-owners of Look’s Marketplace in Sioux Falls. Small Business Persons of the Year from each state and US Territory are receiving the highest business honors in Washington today. Thursday at 2PM they have be presented awards for top business owners in South Dakota.
All week along we are making our audience award of the Career and Tech Education Academy’s Mass Casualty Simulation Exercise schedule Friday ---
Students in healthcare-related classes will have the opportunity to work alongside the Sioux Falls Police Department, Fire Department and Patient Care EMS/Ambulance Service in disaster preparedness.
The exercise includes a mock tornado, a mock plane crash—semi vs building crash. It will be realistic and challenging but hopefully not overwhelming.
We’ll keep sharing because Friday morning we know that there will be concerns from the public about what they are seeing and hearing—it is not a real emergency—but it gives those involved a chance to work with professionals on what they would do if it was real.
Our It’s YOUR Business Show works with people from not only Sioux Falls—area communities---but those in South Dakota---Iowa---Minnesota and other states. We are in this together----and we appreciate learning what we might include tomorrow and beyond.
