Blog---April 23, 2025—9-10—Working on Wellness Wednesday

We had a chance in our Working on Wellness Wednesday show to talk to the South Dakota Health Director Melissa Magstadt---and the Sioux Falls Health Director Joe Kippley.

Talk about getting updated—great way to start the Wellness Show.

State Director Magstadt---helped us understand what the Department of Health is focusing on this year-----yes the priorities!!!

Informed priorities----she included—a positive trend in opioid and fentanyl overdose—and a good trend with the syphilis numbers.

She explained her concerns for maternal and infant mortality trends.

It was good to hear they have what is called a maternal innovation grant the task force that has begun----

It was good to have get and take from “Mel” as she is called in her office---and to us it is important that we communicate frequently. She always knows that when she has information that gets out quickly that our Working on Wellness Wednesday show is a great avenue to be on. She is always welcome.

Joe Kippley is the Sioux Falls Health Director---and we were able to talk with the State Director and the Sioux Falls Director in Pierre on Sioux Falls Day at the Capital.

Mr. Kippley introduced a new strategic plan for the health department:

Recruit and retain high quality employeesBuild trust in public health institutions Innovation thru technology is an important measuring toolSeek new revenue opportunities to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars.

We will talk with both State and City Directors again in May.

Dr. Vance Thompson—yes that Eye Man who recently hosted a late afternoon forum to give people a chance to check the eyes—see what they are doing for each attendee---and it gave them the opportunity to get clear answers about clear vision sessions.

We learned about their Virtual Sessions very Thursday at 11:30---for virtual sessions---live seminars are scheduled on the first Tuesday of the month and is for those being their in person only. The virtual events are then on Thursday.

Lasik, Implantable Collamer Lenses, Refractive Lens Exchange, Advanced Cataract Solutions are discussed as well as other vision correction procedures.

Guest number four was Dr. William Rossing—from Avera—the topic strokes. We know that strokes are nothing to play around with---and our visit took us into areas that you’ll want to listen to the interview yourself to find out what Dr. Rossing was sharing.

We were fortunate to have four medical consummate professionals in our Working on Wellness Wednesday show----and we appreciate being able to work with all four.

Listen live to our It’s YOUR Business—Working on Wellness Wednesday show in the 9-10 hour each Wednesday. We have an interesting—and informative group of guests that partner with us---and help the audience get some advice—they should follow up with as needed. You can hear the medical men and women explain or call for yourself and get your own appointments.

Norm Anderson posts the show as a PODCAST----on the KELO-AM Website---my job is to schedule the guests, work with them on the questions and answers---and try to ask some of the questions our listeners would  more information on.
