More than 2,000 South Dakota FFA members, advisors and guests will gather April 20–22, 2026, at South Dakota State University’s First Bank & Trust Arena for the 2026 South Dakota State FFA Convention. Centered around this year’s theme, “Step Up,” the three-day event will recognize student achievement, develop leadership skills and prepare members for future opportunities in agriculture and beyond.

The 2026 theme, “Step Up,” reflects the many ways FFA members are encouraged to grow, by stepping up to leadership roles, stepping up for new opportunities and stepping outside of their comfort zones. The theme emphasizes personal development, courage, and a willingness to take initiative in classrooms, chapters, and communities.

“In order to get something done, you got to take the initiative and step up in what you're doing. So, if you want to see change happen, you got to step into it.” said Tyler Strasser South Dakota FFA State President.

A Focus on Future Leaders

As the backbone of agricultural education in South Dakota, the state convention serves as the premier stage for showcasing the statewide impact of FFA. Throughout the event, members who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, career development, and service will be recognized for their accomplishments.

“Stepping up means pushing yourself to serve others. Stepping up by putting yourself in this position to take care of things and make sure they get done, you got to push yourself and by getting those things done, you're serving others,” said Strasser.

Rooted in Success: South Dakota FFA Background

The South Dakota FFA Association supports more than 6,500 members across 113 chapters statewide. The organization’s mission is to build strong leaders, encourage personal growth, and support career success through agricultural education, which guides both the annual convention and year-round programming. By bringing chapters together in one place, the convention bridges classroom instruction with real-world application and industry engagement.

Convention Programming Highlights

The 2026 State FFA Convention will feature a wide range of activities designed to challenge, inspire and celebrate members:

Career & Leadership Development Events: Students will compete in events that test their technical knowledge, communication abilities and problem-solving skills across agricultural disciplines.

Degree & Award Recognition: Members will be honored for their dedication and achievement, including the presentation of the prestigious State FFA Degree.

Sessions & Workshops: General sessions and breakout workshops will focus on leadership development, personal growth, and preparing students for success after high school.

State Officer Elections & Transitions: Delegates will elect a new state officer team, marking a significant leadership transition as one team concludes its year of service, and another prepares to step into statewide leadership roles.

Statewide & Industry Impact

With representation from communities across South Dakota, the convention fosters meaningful connections among students, agricultural industry leaders, sponsors, and alumni. These partnerships strengthen the future of the state’s agricultural workforce and highlight the essential role of agricultural education in South Dakota’s economy.

Attendance & Participation

Members, advisors, and guests are encouraged to participate in this transformative three-day event. For a full schedule of events, registration information and updates, visit sdaged.org.

Sponsors & Support

The South Dakota FFA Association extends its appreciation to its sponsors and partners through the SD FFA Foundation, whose continued support makes opportunities like the state convention possible. Their investment in agricultural education ensures students have access to experiences that build confidence, leadership, and career readiness.
