Jane Leavy is quite the decorated author and journalist and we were so happy to have her join our show. Her new book, "Make Me Commissioner: I Know What's Wrong with Baseball and How to Fix It," is an ode to the sport she loves the absolute most. Don't be fooled, it doesn't trash baseball, it's a "love letter" to it.

Thank you to Jane for her time, get the book now wherever books are sold!

Hall of Fame Baseball Writer Tim Kurkjian is joined by his son, Jeff, as they chat all things baseball. Each week you will hear from one of the sport's most storied experts on the history of the game and how it pertains to today. Plus, every week they will be joined by a guest. Without a question, there will be plenty of father-son prodding throughout the show!

Is This A Great Game, Or What?

A love letter to baseball from a well accomplished author!

Tim Kurkjian takes us through the LCS matchups, breaking down what each team brings to the table! Jeff is at a bachelor party this week, which means he’s recording from a hotel while Tim is at home. That’s a rare role reversal, and honestly, it’s pretty hilarious.

On This Date in Baseball History brings us the stories of Joe Morgan, Gregg Olson, Norm Cash and more. But it’s the Alphabest tournament that’s really going to blow you away. We’re down to the final four last names competing for the coveted spot, and the stakes have never been higher!

Team Tim is all about the LCS and the greatest plays ever made in postseason history. Can you believe Tim narrowed it down to just these? We can’t either!

Thanks so much for listening and watching, and as always, thanks for being part of our family!

Guardians Comeback, Tim Kurkjian's LCS Preview

Three out of four series are wrapped up in the LDS, and we’ve got the recaps! The Rays sweep, the Dodgers dominate, and the Brewers continue to impress. It’s not a surprise that three of the four top-seeded teams make it to the LCS round. We’re also releasing this episode the afternoon of Game Four between Cleveland and Chicago, which will determine who faces the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Championship Series. A new episode will release Sunday morning, getting you ready for what’s to come!

Mason Miller leads our Quirkjians, as do the Yankees’ fielding mistakes. Plus, whether they pull off the upset or not, the White Sox are doing something no other team in their pinstripes has done before. The Dodgers’ reliance on the long ball has now set a new record, while the Guardians... well, the long ball isn’t really their thing.

Today’s On This Date in Baseball History has a lot of Whitey Ford, but on this date, another Yankee pitcher also did something unfathomable. Brock Holt, Bernie Williams, and Luis Tiant all make it into the episode. Plus, on the heels of Whitey Ford, Tim brings us another Team Tim. I bet you can figure out from the name what it’s all about. (Hint: it isn’t colors.)

Make sure to follow us on social media, because that’s where you’ll be able to vote for the Alphabest tournament! Find us @GreatGameOrWhat on Instagram and Facebook, and check out our Stories for the polls. On Sunday, we’ll have our Final Four of the best pairings of Alphabrothers (we just made that up).

Thanks so much for watching or listening, and as always, thanks for being a part of our family!

Umpires At Yankee Stadium KNEW This Would Happen

https://api.omny.fm/orgs/e73c998e-6e60-432f-8610-ae210140c5b1/clips/2f04aec7-f8ea-4a60-80b8-b4dd0118d6c2/transcript

In the middle of the Division Series, we’ve got an episode packed with amazing updates. The first weekend of the playoffs has been nothing short of fascinating. Recorded and posted on Monday, October 5th, we may only have one game in each American League matchup, but that doesn’t stop Tim Kurkjian from giving us an epic reaction to everything that’s already happened. And, of course, the National League games have been EPIC.

We’ve got a reaction to Saturday’s near-no-hitter between the Rays and Yankees, plus the base-running blunder that really ended New York’s chances. The Brewers’ epic finish in Game 2 could go down as one of the most amazing finishes in playoff history. And now, Jackson Chourio is breaking franchise playoff records. The Braves and Dodgers have tied things up after two games and now head to Atlanta. Meanwhile, the Chicago-Cleveland matchup is one you absolutely can’t sleep on. These teams are bitter rivals.

Leading the Quirkjians has to be the fun fact we learned about Yandy Díaz this season. You’re telling us he didn’t do this ONCE?! Plus, the Dodgers’ pitching. We’ll just say it: it is flat-out weird! I mean, really, who does that? And there’s even a Chase Utley name drop in there, too!

The votes are in for the first round of our Alphabest tournament. Listen or watch to find out who advances! The next round will be posted on social media at @GreatGameOrWhat on our Facebook and Instagram Stories, so make sure you’re following and make your voice heard. Your vote counts!

Team Tim is the All-Currency Team, inspired by two perfect baseball names: Kevin Cash and Chris Sale. You really couldn’t ask for a better team name theme than that.

Playoff season is officially upon us, and there is A LOT going on. Make sure you follow or subscribe so you don’t miss any of the action. Things are a little different during October, but you can count on hearing from us quite a bit throughout the month. We promise!

Thanks so much for being part of our family!
