Whole life insurance has two parts if it is structured the correct way. It has cash value, and life insurance which is almost like a savings account inside the life insurance policy. If you build up your policy you can eventually start to earn interest and dividends every year, which compounds and the cash value grows. The banking part comes in by giving you access to the money. You can borrow against it without interrupting the growth.

 
Anybody can adopt this principle. It is about having the ability to understand what to do with the money from the moment you earn it until the moment you spend it. Before you spend the money you can have it sit in the whole life policy, borrow against it and then use that over and over again so that you can become your own source of financing whilst still growing cash reserves.
