#35 Voices From Harvard Business School on Life Long Learning

View descriptionShare

Welcome back to another episode of the Invest In You Podcast. In this episode, the serial entrepreneurs are recording live from Harvard Business School, Boston, USA. Whilst attending some executive training Fredrik and Charlie decide to hear from some of the voices from Harvard and get their opinion on what ‘Investing In You’ means to them.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

How did you end up at Harvard Business School?

I've had my eye on Harvard business school for the last 10/15 years. I thought to myself how do I balance my engineering degree and understanding business at the same time. This year the main focus has been strategy, finance and data management.

You need to always be investing in yourself, your skills and your education. By laying that foundation you are preparing yourself for future opportunities that come down the road and gaining a broader perspective on opportunities. Harvard has helped round myself and give me a global understanding.

At Harvard, we use case learning for education. Case learning gives you opportunities to confront opportunities and see different strategies being utilised. It allows you to ask yourself what would you do? and how would you react? Ben - San Jose, California. Engineering Degree MBA

What does invest in you mean to you?

The entrepreneur's organisation experience has been great. If you're an entrepreneur or business owner or CEO it can be a lonely place and you often need advice from people with less of a stake in the business as you to give you perspective. Harvard is interesting because with the executive education I'm able to invest in myself by looking at case studies and thinking about strategy. In one word invest in you, it means learning. - Wally Evans - Birmingham, Alabama. Entreneures organisation executive education.

What brings you to Harvard?

I just wanted to see what it's like I plan to apply in the next couple of years. Ideally, I want to apply to the business programme in conjunction with the law. My first step into owning my own business was photography. I was able to easily gain experience and get out there. Outside of that, I started a brick and mortar second-hand lego store. You learn a lot by owning your own business.

What does invest in you mean to you?

The biggest thing is trying to invest in my confidence and willingness to take risks. It's part of success and finding out what you're made of. Finding out if you can exist in the world of sales and entrepreneurship. - John Swain
