Appreciating the words and wisdom of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.

The late Reverend Martin Luther King Jr's life and legacy are being celebrated today across the nation, and Boyd reminds listeners to honor King's legacy through service, listening, and action. The president of the Salt Lake City NAACP branch, Jeanetta Williams, joins Boyd to discuss the mission of the NAACP, how Utah is leading the way in improving the hearing of diverse voices and invites audiences to watch the televised Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Commemoration tonight. 

Martin Luther King famously said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?" This spirit of service is seen across the nation as a multitude of communities celebrate Martin Luther King Day as a Day of service. President-elect Joe Biden has called for this day of service in relation to his weeklong inauguration celebration. Locally, The Utah for Biden Committee in partnership with the Utah Democratic Party, is hosting a drive with the Utah Food Bank. Event co-chair Elna Hamp joins to invite people of all backgrounds to support the drive by donating in person and online.

In a time of social and political unrest in this nation, Boyd reminds us of Dr. King's request to "make real the promises of democracy" and continue working with "the fierce urgency of now" in mind. Boyd reminds us of the advice given by Reverend Amos C. Brown, pastor of San Francisco's Third Baptist Church and NAACP leader, that "The More We Get Together The Happier We Will be," as we "Tangibilitate" or make something real, perceptible, understandable, touchable, and obtainable through thought, word, and deed.
