At the Constutional Convention of 1787, a woman reportedly stopped Benjamin Franklin as asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" Franklin famously replied, "A republic, if you can keep it.". 

Franklin's words are just as true today as they were then; our republic hinges on the work and respect of its people, and now more than ever is a time for restraint and dignity in the face of political dischord and conflict.
