Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Ganesha. Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as ‘Vinayak Chavithi’.Lord Ganesha is considered to be a symbol of wisdom and good fortune. He is also addressed as Gajanana, Ganesh, Gajadant that are among his 108 names. This is a 10-day long festival. The festival is widely celebrated in the state of Maharashtra. People chant Ganapati Bappa Morya, paying respect to him. 

Prayers are chanted, fasts are observed, and prasada (sweets) such as modaka, which is believed to be a favourite of Lord Ganesh, are distributed. The festival concludes on the tenth day, when the idol is paraded through the streets and immersed in a nearby body of water.
