This week on In The Valley we look at strengthening the future of Gurama Yani U Julie Broad is a business and not for profit consultant who has come to Fitztoy to work with GYU on developing their Strategic Plan and policies and procedures. Jarrah Phillips is a Fitzroy based Psychologist who works in the youth area. He also happens to be a board member at Gurama Yani U. Geoff and Indi discuss the role GYU can play in the future of Fitzroy. Julie Broad has also offered to work with Fitzroy Valley community members to help them develop small enterprise ideas in the region. This week on In the Valley Well known local personalities dominate this week's show. First up, we have a visit from a local elder, former bus driver and current guitar man Andrew Shandley. Andrew dropped by to chat and play us a few songs live in the studio. Also, on this week's show, when we asked her how we should introduce her, she said 'Natalie Davey from Fitzroy Crossing'. This girl wears so many hats it's hard to pin just one label on her. On this week's show, she joins us to talk about the Scholarship she picked up last year from Magaballa Books in Broome. This funding supports Natalie in a couple of writing and illustration projects she's had on the go. One on her childhood experience of falling off the jetty in Broome, the other on her annual wet season experience of walking to town when she's flooded in. A couple of fantastic conversations for your afternoon with some of the Fitzroy Valley's finest this week on In the Valley.    

This week on In the Valley Senator Pat Dodson joins us on the phone from Broome. Pat Talks us through how the upper and lower house works and what  he and the Labor party can  do for the Kimberley region if successful in the upcoming election Chris Towne joins us. Chris is the caretaker of GoGo Station and a member of the team involved in running Fitzroy’s annual Camp Draft and Rodeo. They are looking for community members to get involved in running that event this year. And Aeman Rice from the WAFL commission joins us from a footy ground in Broome to talk us through what is coming up as far as local football across the region.    

This week on In The Valley, a very special conversation Geoff and Indi are joined by Dalisa Pigram, Ses Bero and local lad Emanual James Brown. These three performers are a part of Marageku performing arts troop’s latest production. ‘Jurrungu Ngan-Ga (Straight Talk)’ Dalisa talks us through the meaning of the work and how it came about while Ces and EJB let us in on what it’s like to be a part of the production.  ‘Jurrungu Ngan-Ga (Straight Talk) is on again tonight (April 14. Gates open at 6.15 for a 6.45 kick off at the school. Also on the program,  the dry season, cold times, are on us. In the lead up to the coming Rodeo, Geoff shares with us a conversation he had a few years ago with Scotty McCarthy who was one of the founders of the Fitzroy Campdraught and Rodeo    This years Rodeo runs July 8, 9 and 10 

This week on In The Valley The main man, Geoff Davis is out of town this week so Indi and Rene were left to their own devices. John Creach from Fitzroy Hardware joins them to talk through what the new team at Hardware have been doing to get ready for covid and the coming tourist season. Indi also runs through an update of the current covid numbers and the situation at hand.

Clint Bussey keeps us in the loop with the work Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services are doing in this area   Fitzroy Valley District High School Principal Steve Traynor gives an end of term wrap up on how things are going with the school. This week on In The Valley, you’ve got the A-Team Geoff Davis, Indi Wood and Rene Dingo tackle the latest local Covid information. What are the latest stats? What are the rules with local events like the pending footy season, and how is the region going with the restrictions? Also, this week, we’ve spoken previously about the collaboration between Gurama Yani U (the Fitzroy Valley Men’s Shed) and Fitzroy Valley District High School in providing a program for a group of boys who haven’t been very engaged in the standard classroom setting. That program has taken off well this year and is showing some very positive growth—Rene Dingo updates on that. And we discuss the Men’s on country trips that started last year and what’s next for them.  

Jason De Graff is a new resident of the Fitzroy Valley. He’s just arrived in Fitzroy Crossing to take up the role of Area Manager with Garnduwa Sport and Rec. He’s only been in the role for three days, so we don’t want to push him too hard on what he sees as the future of Garnduwa but it’s a good opportunity to learn a bit about his background and the way he might work. We talk footy, both local and AFL. We also spend a bit of time talking about the current covid situation in WA and here in Fitzroy. Jason is able to reflect on the comparison between his recent experiences in Victoria, where he’s from, and the current situation and attitudes here in WA Also on the program, well known local personality Belinda Storer has recently taken up a new role managing Gwardi Nadu the local aged care facility which is currently operated by Juniper Aged Care.  She is joined in the studio by Charmane Hill the Area Manager for Juniper for The Kimberley. They talk through how things are going up there at the moment, how the facility is being protected from any potential covid in the community and how the residents are taking to the changes around the place. We also look at what restrictions there are as far as visitors to the facility
