One of the biggest complexities of blended families is that they are all different - there is no rulebook, not one size fits all. Because of that, one of my Season 3 guests, blogger Franii Cayley, pointed out some very wise words of advice when it comes to what you’re reading.

She cautions to be careful what you read when you’re looking for advice, because it can be really easy to either feel like you are doing very well compared to what you’re reading, or you’re doing very poorly compared to what you are reading - because the variables are not always the same with your blended family situation and another. She says the added complexity is that the dynamics in your own situation change as you move through different seasons, such as kids moving into the teenage years for example, so the variables can continue to change.

So her biggest tip is to drop the comparison and yes, find comfort in the advice, but don’t look for it to tell you what your next move will look like because everyone’s situations are just so different.
