The City of Johannesburg's MMC for Public Safety, Dr. Mgcini Tshwaku believes a private residence in Houghton Estate where around 90 undocumented foreign nationals were found hiding on Wednesday night may have been hijacked. The arrests followed a tip-off received by the municipality. Tshwaku visited the property this morning* and said they are still waiting to hear from the registered owner. Records show the house was sold in 2024 to a company. Tshwaku says this is the typical modus operandi of building hijackers purchasing properties through companies or NGOs to avoid scrutiny.
