Noth West-Efforts to rescue illegal miners from a shaft at a mine in Stilforntein near Klerksdorp in the Northwest have resumed. About 50 volunteers from the area managed to bring five illegal miners to the surface. The miners were too weak to get to the surface on their own because they have been without water and food after the police and the SANDF blocked off those who deliver their supplies. The rescued illegal miners include three from Mozambique, one from Lesotho and one from South Africa. Residents estimate that around four-thousand-500 illegal miners are still underground.
