Presenting‘Open Sesame’~Barista's third album'Open Sesame' is the continuation of my two earlier albums published under the alias ‘Barista’ and titled ‘Daydream’(2014) and ‘57’(2016). It is the product of 3 years of work. As of now, 39 songs have been recordedandI plan on featuring26of them in this album, releasingthem in recurring volumes. Thevolumes can be organized in relationto the subgenres of the songs, or, like a TV series it canbe spread out over time with severalsongs every 2 weeks or so.For someone like me who doesn't have anyformal music training, becoming a musician past my youth creates mixed feelings, both familiar and unfamiliar. I think this new album isabove the previous albums in terms of the sound. Regardingemotional content, I feel like I caught my first album Daydream's naïve enthusiasm a bit. I aimed atmaking music that is satisfying, multi-layered, with substanceand detail.I strived for the lyrics to convey a theme, story, idea,or experience in unity,and to do so with prosody and harmony. These themes are more of individual inner worlds than pop culture. I am not targeting a specific audience or looking fortangible commercial success, all I want is for people to be aware of the existence of this album,and to promote it as much as possible. I am aware that itis not in compliance with the current trends and main music industry dynamics, but I also know there are many people like me out there with a taste in indie music and/or who miss hearing music with body. Not craving for becoming a touring band, either; this is a studio effort-although Barista has heldfive live shows. Demos of the songs were prepared in my studio in Istanbul, and therecordings (excluding the Turkish vocals) were made at Carbonite Soundin the ‘musicians’colony’of Ojai, CA.I attended all the recordings, and some were doneonline. As a matter of principle, all instruments are absolutelylive.I am thrilled thatsomeof my most favorite musicians have been a part of theprocess, such as:Simon Phillips Drums: Toto, Judas Priest, The Who, Tears for Fears, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, Protocol....Jesse Siebenberg Guitarsand keys: Supertramp, Kenny Loggins, Amy Adams..Brian Duffy Vocals: Guns' Roses, Velvet Revolver, Lady Gaga...Lydia Salnikova Vocals: Kenny Rogers, BO .
for the Love of music!The sound engineer isJason Mariani, who also did most of the mixingalong with Simon. Jason is an accomplished engineer, avid music fanatic, and a fabulous team player; gives his best whether the client in Barista or Metallica (there were in right before us)! My friends Burak Büker, Evren Arkman, Metin Kahyaoglu, andCan Bora Gençattended the production in Turkey. The release will be under ‘Mono’ label who are a small Turkish, local indie label, and distributed by Orchard.
