Wonderful, lovely, lovely, lovely crowd. Um. All right, so this is pop Culture, Season four, episode twelve, A family matter. Laurel trying to find an empty table Luke's ends up sitting next to Kirk. Lorela, I love that shirt, Kirk. It's an Arnold Palmer. Arnold Palmer was a professional golfer who was also also had a clothing line and a drink named after him, which is half lemonade and half tea. That was my favorite scene of this whole episode was just really one day during the late sixties, Arnold was ordering lunch and asked the waitress for a mixture of lemonade and nice tea. The woman sitting nearby overheard what he ordered and told the waitress, I'll have that Arnold Palmer drink. The nicknamed the King, Palmer was one of golf's most popular stars and seen as a trailblazer. His first the first superstar of the sports television age, which began in the fifties. They used to call it Arnie's Army. All the multitudes of people that would follow him on his eighteen whole journeys. No so so speaking of the Arnold Palmer, Paul Newman. You know how they make lemonade, all Newman's lemonade. So Paul Newman makes the Arnold Palmer. But they have to call it like iced Team lemonade because I think they can't call it Arnold Palmer. That's been patented. Yes, but people love that. That's like a fave drink for so many. Arnold Palmer was just the greatest golfer of his generation. He and Jack Nicholas used to battle all the time, and Lee Trevino and all these great players. That was something. Rory is surprised about Lorelai having bread and cheese and food in the refrigerator. Rory, we have cheese. Uh, moves to the refrigerator and opens it. Lorela, Yeah, it's not Donner pass cheese. The party was trapped by exceptionally heavy snow in the Sierra Nevadas. So my house is right near there. Yes and yes. When food ran out, some members the group reportedly resorted to cannibalism. Uh, of those already um passed away. Yes, what were they going to do? What were they going to do. Yeah, you know, when you're hungry, you gotta eat, Um, Laurel I, but hey, at least it was fresh snow, so they could eat, get nourished and go skiking. Laurel I is referring to not having food like the Donners. Um. Paris is now sitting up in bed taking first gulps of her espresso. Lane standing nearby, Paris screams, Paris, who, Good morning Vietnam, Good morning Vietnam, agreeing from Robin Williams character Adrian Cronaur in the film of the same name. You want to you want to take a shot at that good Morning Vina you want to give us I can't do. But I have totally seen that movie. I'm gonna try on. Good Morning viet not very good. I love Robin Williams so much, my favorite Robin Williams, though it will we always be Mrs Doubtfire. I missed that one. You never You've never seen Mrs do that one. You actually should watch it as a family. I'm not even kidding. It's so good and he so. Robin Williams lived in San Francisco. He lived in in the suburbs of Francisco, so they filmed it his daughter, you do, Zelda, Oh my god. Okay, So if anybody wants to watch Mrs Dowver, here's a little bit of Mrs Doubt a tribune. So when Ryan Seacrest and I first started working together, Sorry, I know people don't care, but whatever you do. Listen, Oh you're stuck. They had just we worked at this place called kt VU, which is like a TV station in San Francisco. It's actually an no one. They had just finished filming Mrs Doubtfire when I started working there. And my desk that I got is actually in the movie. There's a scene. There's a couple of scenes in the movie and one where uh, he's in the office and you see this desk and it was my desk. What what a what a what a talented funny guy? Geez his his his appearance is on The Johnny Carson Show with Jonathan Winners are legendary. Their legendary. Um frodim what I know? Just the nicest. Yeah, good morning Vietnam is a greeting from Robin Williams character Adrian Croner of the film the same name. Adrian was a real dj UH for the Armed Forces Network during the Vietnam War. Robin Williams ad libbed all of Adrian's radio broadcast for the film Wow. That all came on the top of his head. Oh my god, crazy Laura lion Rory on the phone wondering who's the girl in the diner talking to Luke or maybe she's a friend of Nicole's or another attorney if it's not definitely off um Lore, I wait, Luke is the most complicated guy. No, who also owns a Doobie Brothers record. It's really funny. I missed that line. Oh my god. The Dubie Brothers are a legendary rock band who have sold over forty eight million. So I'm really the Michael McDonald Dubie Brothers fan. Are you sure? I was a fan of all those But you liked it even without Michael McDonald. I really was, like, I love Michael McDonald, I think. I don't you know? I wasn't so um um um in tune with the Dubie Brothers. I mean, they were on the radio all the time, so you heard him all the time because everybody listened to the radio, right, So the Dubie Brothers on my phone. But I really liked the Michael McDonald doubIe Brothers. Yeah, they had some catches, isn't it like remember taking it to the street, taking it, taking it? Yeah? Was that that? Yeah? Yeah, taking it to and like, um, oh my god, I could go you could go on and on. There's a very distinctive sound. They were inductors the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in two thousand and twenty. What took so long? Twenty five years? Is it twenty five years after your your first album drops or something like that, or after you retire. I don't know if there's a method to the madness. Can it just be No? I think it's when you debut. So it's what a fool believes. That's a classic. Michael McDonald Dubie Brothers. All right. So, by the way, that my wife just walked in, Oh my gosh, cold, congratulate her on her fine Hello fresh cooking. Congratulations on your fine Hello fresh cooking. It was amazing. How many times I will be taking a stab at it tonight? How many How many talkers did you get out of that? I had to you had there's plenty more for how many more any more? I think like six total tacos or eight eight eight. Do you get eight? Yeah? Wow wow, Yeah, you can definitely feed a family of four. This, I mean I I inhaled this. No, I mean it was so good. I just like I just was like sucking it down. No, no, I'm good. I'm good for now. I gotta I will after the podcast. I'm almost done. But I mean it was. It was fantastic. It really was. Did you enjoy that? That's so cute. I think I think we're gonna becoming big Hello Fresh. I think we're gonna become customers. Yeah that's cute. Yeah yeah, so no more shopping. Well, the cool thing is like when you're it can go wherever you are. You know what I mean, Like if you're traveling, it can go where you are. Oh my god. Yeah, we could order it. We could order it. You could have it for your Christmas vacation. We could have it for Christmas vacation. Because it's kind of an issue getting delivery. It's so complicated. Well we go through this company and this app and then and then it never shows up and it's cold and you have to so say like you're somewhere. You get the three meals, so you're set for like two dinners maybe lunch whatever, you've got friends coming over. Breakfast and lunch is not an issue on vacation. It's the dinner, yeah, because you don't want to go out whatever, right exactly. And then you've got you, I got you, you got me. I love it. Now we have these awesome dinners and she's like really happy to make because they're and she can do homecook and you feel good about it. Yeah. Anyway, back to the dude. We're taking it to the street. We're taking it to the kitchen, is what we're doing. Uh Rory and Lorel. I see just sleeping in his car. Uh Rory. Well, it's listen. I've been that guy. I slept in my car when I first got to Hollywood. At least in California, it would not be so frigid. Uh it was a little cold. But I've been that guy for two weeks. Two weeks I slept yep, and that is not like unheard of with actors kind of commons. You know, who lived in her car? I think was Tiffany Hattish? Did she really? I don't want to get it wrong, but I think she did. I think she talks about interact I slept in the actually slept in the front seat because you drove from wherever. Like, no, I don't know. I bought a car out there. I bought a six Pontiac Tempest. I got a beat her right, and it always broke down. And I was going from audition to audition if I could make it right, And my buddy James from Brooklyn let me park, Yeah, in his spot in his apartment complex, in his apartment, but he gave you a spot. He did for a little while, and then it was such a small place. It was like he's like, dude, you're in the car, so you can use my shower from time to time. No, no, no, no, good, good, dude, good for the shower. Uh wait, Now, what did you call Jesse's car? Was it a beater? Call it paints? Holding it together? I love GELOPI I gotta see where the word gelope comes from. Yeah, that's that's an older that's kind of a dated expression. At gelope is from you know, the twenties, or an old car in a dilapidated condition. Yeah yeah, yeah, but but if we used to call him beat I love the word anyway. Anyway, So, Rory, so Jess leaving his car. Rory well, right in front of his place. How could he not know? Referring to Luke um Laurel like, well, it's freezing out here. He could die. He must not nor rory or doesn't care? M redoubting my heart. No, no no, I missed that one, Uh, Laurel. I do you think David Blaine put him up to this? That's fine, that was a good line. H. David Blaine is a magician, illusionist, and endurance artist with dangerous stunts. Some of the stunts including nuts, buried alive and have you met him? No? But I see what he does and I'm like, are you nuts? I don't know. He's doing pretty well. He's making up. Yeah, he's a millionaires millionaires. Uh. Some of the stunts include being buried alive for seven days in a glass. I would never, ever, ever, ever burry for five seven seconds. I'm like, absolutely not. I don't not like feeling claustrophobic in a box. One time, the last m R I had I had to go into this, I'm like flipping out. I'm like freaking Yeah. You go into that thing and you're like, oh, what did you do? Did your wife can come in and like hold your hand or pat your head. No, no, you're inside the tube, dude, So what did you have to take some medication? No? No, how did you get through it? You got through it? Oh? I couldn't even I kept feeling I felt like Linda Blair in the Exorcist, and I haven't been in an elevator. Like I felt like Linda Blair in the Exorcist when she was getting her spinal tap. Yeah, I know, elevator. I wanted my mommy, yes, or else I was going to turn into the devil. I was actually turning into the devil anyway. Seven days in the glassd people visited, including Judini's niece Harry Hudini, the original the O g Right holding his breath for seventeen minute? How do you hold your breath for seventeen I think it's like, give me a break, seventeen I you know, I I can hold my breath under water for like three minutes, and that's like an eternity. Um alright, holding his breath seventeen is standing on an ice block for sixty three hours. Okay, standing on a high pillar twenty two inches wide for thirty five hours. Wow, Well you only have to do that once and then you go to the bank. Laura Lai is making fun of Jess being an illusion, wondering why he is in stars Hollow. Okay, Uh, Laura and Roy talking about Jess being in town. Lorela, she called him or something. It's very confusing. Luke was not an expansive story telling you it all. He knows that Jess and he came for his car and he's not leaving without it. Rory, Okay, Laurelai, which means he might be here. He might be the day tomorrow. So danger Will Robinson? Yeah, good line, good line? Will Robinson oft quoted line. Will Robinson is a main character in the TV series Lost in Space. He is the youngest child in the Robinson family. He developed a special connection with the robot. Now, I don't want to step on your trivia, but I believe that it was only uttered a small number of times on the actual show. Oh is that right? I don't know. Jackie, Yeah, Jackie, our producer Jackie. While we keep going, will you look up how many times they actually said danger Will Robinson in the original Lost in Space. I might be wrong, but I think it was not as many as how famous the line is? Okay? In the original from the seventies. Yeah, the o g one, you know, you know. And while you're at it, trying to find out who is the first person to reference it? Because oh gosh, clever, right, because it was how did this all start? Because it's a it's a meme at this point, right, it's just like, yeah, give us some more info while we keep going. Did the robot ever say danger Will Robinson? With his that was so often being to protect the youngest member of the crew. The robots catchphrases were it does not compute and danger Will Robinson. We still don't know how many times he said it, right right? Maybe I'm wrong. I might be wrong. It might be beating me up, Scotti. That didn't get said as many times as you. I found that the robot did say danger Will Robson, but we don't know how many times. But let me keep googling, keep going while while we continue, I would like to know the first person who referenced it. I wanted to party. Let's see what she can accomplish by the time we think I want to give I want to find out who that is and give that person credit. Yeah. Uh, Laura Lae is referring to just being lost in space because they don't know why Jess returned to stars Hollow. All right, Lucas, upset about family issues? You think, uh luke families? I mean, they're just messes. It's like this uh spill drink that just keeps spilling, and you gotta keep cleaning it up, and your scrub and your scrub, and you just can't get the stain ups. Show me a happy family, just one. Didn't that Tolstoy guy say something about the families? Leo Tolstoy is a Russian author who wrote in a Karenina Warren Peace and Family Happiness, Lucas, referring to the quote by Tolstoy, all happy families are alike. Each unhappy family isn't happy in its own way. So let me get you a little trivia. Sorry, yeah, don't come cutting off your Tolstoy. I might have blurred this with beam me up, Scottie. So while Jackie looks, what I found was Jane Kirk's iconic line beat me Up, Scottie, was never once used in Star Trek. It's referred to as the Mandela effect, taken from societal phenomena that seemingly started in earnest when everyone assumed that fame politician and human rights advocate Nelson Mandela died in prison during the eighties. I'm not totally percent sure on why it's called the Mandela effect, even though I just read that resonate with me. But somehow it's like pop culture makes you think that it was said a bunch of times in the original show because it becomes so famous. As you said, who first said danger Will Robinson? Anyway, keep going, while Jackie continued, and I have another factory, Jackie, it was only said once, and look at that knew it. I'm still looking for how who referenced it? Um, but but but great, great and for mation so far good, Okay, and that's it. The next episode, season four, episode thirteen, nag Hammadi is where they found the Gnostic gospel nog like egg nog hum de hum, All right, whatever, that's just a pronunciation. Oh my god, such good steps. So, Jackie, you did a good job figuring out that it was only said once. But we just don't know who. So maybe people will tell us on on social they'll tell us who first kind of made danger Will Robinson so famous and a great piece of trivia right there. Um, Merry Christmas, Scott, Merry Christmas to you as well. Yes, oh my gosh, okay, wait, do you have like a Christmas wish? I want piece on earth and goodwill toward all men, women and children and animals. That's new. No one's ever shaid that you could get one gift under the tree for real. It would be a gift you'd want, and you don't have to be like, oh, I don't need gifts like what would be something like I want to know what stokely edge one hundred skis in one hundred and eighty six centimeters and I'm trying to work on that. Now. Do you think your wife is listening? She nobody can get them there, they're they're there. They stopped making them in a year ago. Guess what I did get though, when it should be arriving soon, the cookie jar that's in Lorialized kitchen. I've got it and so on. eBay, I'm not gonna lie. I paid. You could get it for like thirty forty bucks. But there was one I found for in the box brand new, so I did take some extra pennies and I bought that and I'll as soon as I get it. I'll show everybody gonna get reimbursed. I don't know if I heard it's going to pay back for that. I think I'm gonna have to come out of pocket on that because she does. Amy does this all the time, you guys, the Hello Kitty out of She's spending her own money on this podcast. She's all in. Okay, I am all in. She's one of you. She's one of you. I paid my own money.
