This is your pop culture for S3 E2, Haunted Leg.
I am all in. Oh, oh that's kiss you. I am all in with Scott Patterson and I Heart Radio Podcast. Hey everybody, Scott Patterson, we're back for a minisode with Riley. Uh pop culture. We're gonna be uh pop culturing Haunted Leg. Riley, take it away. Oh this is pop culture for the Haunted leg. Scary. Alright, first we have up. Uh. Emily and Loila are talking you should be, and they're talking about the local girl, shawna h em He says, I can't believe this. Shauna was always so. She was bright, cultured, well spoken, and apparently a big Antiokley fan. Emily, this is not funny. The one committed a crime. So there's reference Annie Oakley. We've talked about before on season two, episode eighteen. Back in the saddle again, Amy, back at me, give it to me, back in the saddle. Yeah, back in saddle. This do not expect me to say it right? Come on, you must sorry, you must, come on your voice, you have your voice, Come on saddle again. You're welcome. You're welcome. We can move forth now. So referring to Annie Oakley, Um, this is funny because Annie Oakley was known for her sharp shooting, which is what Laura li I was referring to. Um. We have talked about her. But a little extra fact. On August two of her Chicago newspapers reported that a Oakley had been arrested for stealing a pair of men's pants to pay for some drugs. But in fact it hadn't been actually anti Oakley, with someone impersonating Annie Oakley. Uh. So she decided she wanted to sue the Hurst family for the little issue there. I know, she said, someone will pay for this dreadful mistake she met herst moving on. Uh, Laura, La Michelle are talking about the mouse that was seen Michelle saw. Laura Lee says, did you call an extremary sermonator? Michelle says, why, I know that was a wonderful idea. I was actually going to fasten a large wedge of cheese to my head and lay on the ground until Mickey gets hungry and decides to crawl out and snack on my face, referring to Mickey Mouse. Um. Growing up, Walt Disney developed an interest in drawing and took up illustration classes. Walt had a pet mouse, which inspired Mickey, and Walt voiced Mickey from seven. But where did this idea come from? The mice like cheese. I don't know where to come from. I don't know either. Oh years as us, I was still thinking about Walt Disney having a pet mouse and then creating Mickey Mouse from that. I just bem nervous. You're gonna miss the reference to Ben. Did you get that one? Yea? I know what? Yeah, yeah, but I think there was a reference to Ben. I nervous. Riley missed it? Oh maybe I did? Okay, Well maybe Mickey and then I'll tell you about Ben, okay, um and so, but actually, cheese don't really cheese. You actually, mice don't really like cheese. Um. They just go because you know, the whole myth is that they're left out on the counter so that's the only thing to eat. But it's not like they actually like, really crave cheese. Do you want me to tell you about Ben? Really fast? There was a very subtle, subtle mentioned about Ben, which was a V two movie, a sequel to the film Willer and The follows a lonely boy who befriends Willard's former pet rat named Ben. Ben becomes the boy's best friend. Blah blah, blah. So it's a movie about this rat. I think Michael Jackson maybe did a song about it, but I might be liking that part up. I'm gonna look that up while you keep talking, okay, Um. Next we have lord L's telling Rory she got home too late last night. Roy says, I got home at ten and you already sleep. Lordly says, well, I was trying to watch the Legend of Badger Vance again. The Legend of Badger Vance two thousand film directed Bagger Bagger, Robert Redford and starring Will Smith, Matt Damon, and Charlie's there On Um. Originally, the lead roles were going to be played by Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford, but after careful consideration consideration decided that the movie would work better with younger men. Um. Matt Damon did not have any previous experience playing golf. He spent a month with U golf pro and uh he actually suffered from his I've separated rib due to excessive practicing trying to get the role correct. And I want to spend a month with a pro. Yeah, it's not that you know how I like to be right? I was Ben was a song by Michael Jackson for the movie. Then what year was Ben? What year was so? Oh gosh? So this is before Quincy Jones came into Michael Jackson. Michael, he's writing songs for rat movies. Gotcha? Okay, way to go, Michael, All right. Next Rory and Lorelie. Rory is telling Lorlie that the grandma will be at her swearing in ceremony. Emily Roy says, you'll be sitting there listening to the ceremony. You hardly have to talk at all. Lordly says Rory. Roy says, hey, we are family. Loria Lee says, yeah, we'll look how great that worked out for the Sledge the Sister Sledge. Um, so this is a reference to Sister Sledge. Was seeing group of sisters named Debbie, Joe, Any Kim and Cathy Sledge. They had a big hit in nineteen We are Family. It's another one we can sing, you know, I think we need to sing that now there's some iron in it. But Amy, can you join along with us? Can you get up and from your nap and were family? I got all my sisters and I got all my sisters with me. That was a big sorority song for me. That was like, because sisters. I think a lot of people, a lot of organizations adopted that song in nineteen What's seventy nine wasn't Yeah as their song Sisters with Me? Did you think, Daniel No? I didn't. What was your song? Ben? From Michael Jackson? Was that the song? Totally? I was trying to think of how we gilmourries and I'm like, I got are lying Rory with me? When your show was on? When you were in college? Was it for me? Danielle was in college Going Girls was on? I was out of college, so the song would have been the Carol King's song for your sorority, daniel If you're a rot? Right? Is that the one? Hello? Hello, Danielle? Hello? Oh my god? Something I'm talking staring at us? I was I not? Did you guys not hear me? No? Your mic was not on Scott? Maybe your WiFi is still frozen? Oay, it's still amy, Danielle, don't I agree? Keep going? This is what happens. Things start off the rails, the factions began, and then the sides of destroyed. What's next? Well, so the reference for this with the ladies had a bitter feud broke up in nine which ended in two thousand seventeen after Johnny died, which is you know what was happening there? There's a new sister Sledge now really yeah, Danielle remember we did something with that. Yeah? No, there was mart them on k A. I think it was the daughters right like something. Yeah, Sledge legendary, legendary sledgendary. Yeah, good name the new family. I got Emily and Richard with me, carrying on the legacy and trying to follow up Riley. Alright. Christopher rides his mode cycle at night with no helmet or glasses because he's just rewrite the whole episode. He rides his motorcycle with his motorcycle jack and open, no helmet, no I wear He's so good looking special sing a long episode, keep going. He comes into scenes from the ceiling. He drops in from the ceiling. He cut a hole in the roof and dropped into the scene. I am returning my calls. What calls? What the hell are you talking about? Psycho? We don't know, We didn't know that you were calling anyone calls Not one returned? What okay? God? Sorry? Loworer lines with Suki. I pause for one second I vaguely remember, yes, that there was a voicemail on the answering machine and Lorela stops it and Rory goes, who was that? And she said, no one, no one, no one. What. I don't have any memory of this, but that was Kurt Riley? Do you was it Kirk? Kirk was calling? But why would Laura? I would have let Rory listen. I know the scene you're talking about when they have the answering machine. Remember Kurt, it wasn't. Remember Kirk's mom picks up when he's trying to lose moment. It was hilarious. I think it's Kirk. Okay, so you think, Daniel, you think there was another call, Like before the Kirk call, there was a like a Christopher call that she cut off and tried to know why. I remember her cutting off a voicemail, and now I'm like, was that Christopher? But I cannot have the recollection if it was or wasn't as an as a as an audience member. That's what you needed and didn't get it. That's why it's being created inside your head as in a suite observer of the show. You needed that scene, but anyone continue you needed it. The show needed that scene. The SuperM next one has to be my favorite one. Emily is ordering it for Luke's diner and he says, yes, how is your season Caesar salad dressing prepared? Luke says, I'd have to call Paul damn it, ask him, Um so I did? Did you find it weird that she didn't say hello to Luca? Luke didn't even say hello to her. She she just came in and asked for the way did Actually, it's like, what the heck is that? Right? That was weird. He's a person like say hello to him? She knows who And there was all this like, oh, you two have a thing, you guys, you know nothing? Um lord, I did say something that I will be using moving forward. Make sure you check that frying oil with your face. It was very cost Yeah, she's it was because the Yeah. So Paul Lean his an actor and director who started started his own line of food products, the first being his own salad dressing, which is what they're talking about here. Paul's friend A. E. Hotchner always noticed Paul had a strange habit. Every time he went to a fancy restaurant. Upon ordering, Paul would politely ask the restaurant for some olive oil, vinegar, mustard, and fresh black pepper. Upon getting these ingredients, he would make his own dressing at the table, which is very odd. Um. The dressings are good. They are yeah, and kind of expensive, So go Luke pop off the best. I love Paul Newman. I often have to debate on Neman and Robert Redford. In my mind, I usually go Robert, But I love Paul. That's a tough one, right, there really is those two together in those movies. Good God. I wonder how many people coach him. I love your salad dress. I think a lots that. I really like his lemonade. His lemonade is way better than the salad dade. Paul Newman's lemonade is beyond and all of it was like for charity. He's like amazing everything for charity. He's solely addressing guy in my brain. Oh he's good. They've got a lot of products. What he's solely addressing guy in my brain? Well, you don't know any of his movies. No, you don't know. I'm sure I do. But like Paul Human, I'm like the color of money. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Wow, you know, I don't know who Paul Newman is. For the dressing more than his movies. Oh my god, the Sting. Okay, Danielle, you need to watch. But casting a Sundance Kid and the Stamp watch those two. I'm on the same pie of Danielle. I only know the dressing. You don't know what. Sorry, you know what. It's not their generation. I'm a big fan of salads, Paul. Okay, Paul Newman was the Brad Pitt of his era. Yes, well, or Robert. Both of them were. They were both Brad Pitt. No, no, I get that, I get that. I'm not attacking you, but it's just it's just that's who he was. He was like but he was a great actor, I mean, just a master class level actor and handsome. And so was Robert Redford, by the way, equally or more handsome. They were incredible actors. And they came together in two scenes and they were friends. You know, they two films. When I bought my Hello Kitty Alarm Clock on e Bay, which is he has arrived, I just haven't unboxed it yet. I also bought an old poster of Robert Redford from my garage. I just wanted to have like a cool old Robert Redford movie poster. Did you know what about that movie with the I mean god, Tom Hanks and Daniel Craig, that period piece Road to Perdition, Road to Perdition, Paul Newman, I mean with such great role as the Hudsecker proxy a you know Collen Brothers film. My God, he was the biggest movie star h for I don't know. Thirty four year might have gotten Tom Cruise into racing cars too, but I might have made that right and Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise had this strategy, his agent had the strategy of putting Tom Cruise against legends in his early films. Color of Money was one of them. You should watch Color of Money. It's great, great film. Yeah, No, very smart. PAULA. Wagner is a very smart agent. Can't wait for Maverick. Yeah, me too. Ye. Speaking of another movie, lor Lai and Rory are talking about being upset the Emily called Christopher Loria less my life sticks. Hey, let's look into each other's eyes and say I wish I were you at exactly the same time. Pull a Freaky Friday. Yep, we have talked a little bit about Freaky Friday in season two, episode seventeen, Like Mother, Like Daughter. When Jamie Lee Curtis found out that Lindsay Lohan, who was going to be playing her daughter, started in the parent drop, she asked which twin did she play? Unaware that didn't we tro have the water ski scene in the original Freaky Friday because that was solid. Mhm. Oh, you guys need to go see the real Freaky Friday, the Jodie Foster Freaky Friday. I haven't. I haven't seen him. Chael Murray, though you've never seen any Freaky Fridays. Oh my god, that's a good movie. Yeah, Jodie Foster one was like the best, really Freaky Friday. I absolutely saved up for my own electric guitar solely because Lindsay Lohan played electric guitar and Freaky Friday never touched it. But you know, I bought it. What was that song that she sings with the electric guitar? What is it? If you say one word of it, I will know the rest of it. Um. Yeah, yeah, I want to give it. Get out, take me yeah, take me away, Tango Tango. But I didn't like that movie. Oh, sorry, Iconic. Did you ever see the one where Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds switch? Oh, it wasn't it. It wasn't due date. What was that one? All pass? No? No switch or something switch? I don't know, Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman, the fun by a Fountain or something. All right, then that made me think of Face Off, which I love that movie so much. But keep going, keeping so genius because they really like became each other. All right. Our last reference is Jess. This one is a long one. You go off to Washington, then nothing. You come back here all put out because I didn't just go around wait for Dean like you would have, like Dean would have done. And yeah, what about Dean? Are you still with him? Because last time I checked, you were and I haven't heard anything to the contrary. Plus the two of you walking around the other day like some damn Andy Hardy movie. Um. Andy Hardy was a fictional character, an All American boy who played was played by Mickey Rooney. A MGM film series. From the first film set the tone for the rest of the series. It's themes were on her integrity, courage, the face of scandal, and maturity, which they were referring to. Hear Mickey Rooney isn't his real name? His given name is no gosh oh no oh no Ninian Joseph Yule Jr. And he is Mickey Mouse Ninian and I n and I a n Ninian Ninni in business all theo is where they call him Ninni for sure. Ni. Um. Yeah, that's it fair pop culture, right, we have to tell everybody, listen to everybody. Uh. We've got a little bit of news here. Um.
