Wally Pip took a day off and Joe DiMaggio got to play and then yeah he never played again, Joey Pipe. Look, I'm just waiting for the Adrian Smid pop culture reference so I got you. It's coming, it's coming towards the second half. Okay that Oh I loved it, Oh my god, because I loved all. Right, here we go, take her away, Danielle, I got you. So, Season three, episode thirteen, Dear Emily and Richard pop culture, and we are going to start off with reference during Lord Light and Rory telling Emily and Richard they're going backpacking in Europe. Rory goes, but we want to be spontaneous. Joe upon the Train of Paris head off to Spain, and Laura leges, Oh, no, it's raining in Spain. But since the rain in Spain stains mainly in the plane God, there's a lot of rhyming in that. But if you guys didn't know, the rain in Spain is a song from the musical My Fair Lady. My Fair Lady was almost not made into musical. Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Lowe were not the first to try. Oscar Hammerstein the second and Richard Rogers had tried and told Alan and Frederick it was impossible. But My Fair Lady opened on Broadway in ninety six with Julie Andrews, Plane, Eliza and Rex Harrison as higgins Um. Harrison was actually the second choice for the role. The part was offered to Noel Coward, who turned it down. On opening night, Harrison was badly afflicted by stage fright and had to be coaxed out of his dressing room. It's got like that one. He's laughing like Emily and Richard And do you ever get stage? Have you ever had stage fright? Like with the music, not with the acting. Oh wow, when you're with your band, it's terrifying. No, full band is great because I feel like I'm not awarded, but when I go out there, so it's it's I can't do it anymore. It's terrifying. I'm terrified to do it. It's it's very bad. But I get it because like I can do this. But if somebody was like, oh, you have to make a toast at this wedding, I would like, I can't do it. I don't want to do it. So it's like I get it. Stage is real, it's real, alright. The next one, Rory got invited to Sharry's scheduled C section and Laura legoes, you have two R s v P to a C section, Rory says, and bring a gift Laura Legoes. I wonder if Laura Mercier makes demial such a good one. So, Laura Mercy is a French makeup artist who has built a brand and has estimated one million dollars worth h sorry, a hundred million dollars and one million. Her tinted moisturizer is bomb. I use it. So if anybody else does that too, shout out to her. Tinted moisturizer got out to the benefit poof from last week though. Um. Laura moved to New York from Paris and was a freelance makeup artist from magazine shoots. She then met Madonna for a Vogue photo shoot and she hired her as her makeup artist. She has also worked with Mariah Carey, Julia Roberts, and Sara Jessica Parker. So she is very well known in the glam space. And dem roll is basically a treatment to moderate severe pain. So lore Lie is making a joke as a gift to take to Sherry. So that's when you're having a baby or something. Yeah, I guess that something to helpfulut the pain. Um. So the next one is lore Lye and Rory walking home with the beanie baby boxes because Ridgemont wants a beanie baby party. Um and Loralai says, this is your this is yours. Amy. You need to learn that they're going to be times in your life where you have to do ridiculous things for money. If you're Adrian's Med, that includes everything that ever happens in your whole career. So I'm shooting this one to you, Amy, you take it away. Adrian's Med was the star with Michelle Peiffer of one of the best movies of all time, Greece Too, so he was like the king of the t birds. If you've never seen Greece, to do yourself a favor, rent it download bit however the kids are doing these days. Then Adrian's Med went on to co star with not just William Shatner, but Heather Locklair in t J Hooker like Hello, So she is making fun of Adrian's Med, But yet should she be? I think that's me. It is mean, but yet I gotta make the money. You gotta make a link because Greece Too, although panned at the time, has become iconic. If you're on TikTok, there's a lot of grease too. Um, so they're basically so basically localized, referencing their air of status in in this reference. But what else is cool is that this episode aired in two thousand three, and this was the year that The Simple Life premiered, So this was like Paris Hilton's a big year and she was the ultimate socialite in the early two thousands. So that's why this reference came on. All makes sense. I worked on the three auditions up once while I was up in Toronto filming, so forth I didn't get the part. Then they wanted me to be in the park because they you know, they kept offering it to people whose parents were in it. And Paris is in it, yes she is. Oh my god, I have to I've never seen this movie, but it's got a couple of people we love, Alexa, Penya Vega. Yeah, we love Alexa and uh, Paul Sorvino, Sarah Brightman, WHOA. I'm gonna have to. I don't have never heard of this because it was Alexa stop. Oh my god. You guys, you guys don't understand what's happening. Alexa is now playing Sarah Brightman. Alexa stop because I said, yeah, we we understand technology, but we understand technology. The reason the reason you've never heard of this film, it's because it's it's junk because they didn't they didn't spend enough money on it. It was a big, ambitious project and anyway, it's a whole it's a whole story. I'll tell you another time. But I've never wanted anything or worked harder to get something in my life. And it didn't work. Out. I mean, I was like, I was on a series in Vancouver and then they offered it again, like we're trying to work out the schedule so you can come to Toronto to do the film, and we just you know, the production that had me, had had uh in Vancouver, just couldn't work it out. Couldn't a blessing in disguise though, because it I didn't know, but I didn't care. I didn't care how it turned out. I just wanted to I was turned on by the part. It wouldn't have been a dud. If that wasn't it could have been a whole different thing. I don't know, but I didn't care. I was so turned on by the role. And that's the thing that kind of broke me and I almost left acting because I didn't get that role. I was like, I'm done. I can't. I can't work this hard on something and not get it and then get it again and then not be able to do it. But if I had been supported earlier in the process, and I wouldn't have taken this other series and I would have been able to do that movie. That movie, to me was everything. I wanted to do. That movie so badly and I worked on it so hard at day and night day night, I was taking singing lessons, dancing lessons, king you know what, jokes on them joke, Oh my goodness. Yeah. The next one, Sherry's friend Marine is calling Rory at school to tell her that Sherry went into Jerry. Stop. So Marine goes, listen, I have Grading Carter on the other line, and so Grading Carter was the editor of Vanity Fair magazine from July seventeen UM, and under his editorship, the magazine won eleven National Magazine Awards, including two for General Excellence for Magazines with circulation of more than one million, the highest honor in magazine publishing. So that means that that phone call was really important and not worth her time, um, dealing with Sherry's labor problems. So that was that, Um alright. The next one, so Loura Leges, um uh Leilanie, very exotic name. Emily says, she's from Honolulu. Lora Leges, does she know Don Ho? Emily says, no, Laura less is Charo Emily, no pure cane sugar dancers. So we've already had Taro a couple of times in pop culture. Very popular mentioned in Gilmore girls. Obviously, we know her for her signature phrase chucchi chu chi. Um no no no no no, couchi couci not choo choo choo chichi. Have you never seen ch She's not Hawaiian. No, that's why it's so. So char moved to Hawaii to raise her son, then she returned to Beverly Hills. Um, but she was a longtime resident of Kauai and owned a restaurant there too. Um. The next one is when Laura lies at Emily's house without Richard and she's talking about the meal she just heated, heated up, and Emily goes, I even added a little wine to the pan to keep it from drying out, and Lorelie says, well, who died and made you? Sarah Moulton So. Sarah Malton is a cookbook author and television personality. She was the Good Morning America on air food editor. UM.
