We meet Marty.   We meet Jason Stiles.
What will the future hold for these two fellas?
It's Party time dorm room style...our door is open!

I am all in. Oh, that's just you. I am all in with Scott Patterson and I heart radio podcast. Everybody, Scott Patterson, I'm all on podcast. I'm joining with my intrepid team. Daniel Romo terror Suit. Amy Sugarman has arrived, and we may all begin. We may all begin, And Amy, I see you are in your rumpus room in your house. I love that you called it a rumpus room because that shows how old we are. But it's my I'm in my garage. I love a rumpus room. A rumpus room is so epic. I actually picture uh Rory and Lorela like loving a rumpus room. I think they would. I think I think they would. Um. Alright, so who's gonna Who's gonna take us away with our sin? Is going to synopsize? Is that Danielle? Yeah? This is season four, episode three, The Hobbit, the Sofa and Digger Styles Air date, air date October seven, two thousand three, and the synopsis is classes are starting at Yale and Rory is eager to show up early. The first party is also being held on Rory's floor, and Paris wants to make sure it goes perfectly Emily and Richard go into business with someone unexpected, and Suki and Lori like hater a Lord of the Rings kids party where Suki has second thoughts on becoming a mother. Well well well well well well well well well were you in it? I think you weren't in it. I don't think I was in it. I don't think so either. Yea, yeah, So that's I mean, if we're going to judge it by you know, one to ten dorm rooms, what are we giving it. I'm knocking off a dorm room. It's already starting at a nine. Okay, even if it's like the greatest episode ever. There was a reference to uh giving Rory what that muffins? Yeah? Yeah, Suki sent the cookies and Luke sent the muffins, and believe it or not, for that, I did receive a full paycheck. Yeah. Yes, that is an interesting question, Like if you're a regular, they have an episode that you're not in, Like the week before that, Melissa wasn't in all episodes produced. It's called all episodes cool, so nice? So what do you think? What do you guys think? Um, I'll let you guys start. Danielle, what do you think? Oh, okay um. I thought it was great. I there's a couple of things as a as a new person watching, I'm like, who's this digger styles guy gonna be? Who's the naked guy on the floor d and and Suki being a mom. I think she's gonna be the best moment ever. But there's a lot of things here that are new as the first time watcher that I'm like, I wonder who these people are going to be. Are they to be really important people? I don't know yet, but you know, it's exciting to meet new people. Oh. I love that take on it. I just think it introduces like the new dynamic on the show because now you're getting these other characters in, You're getting Rory's roommates, the other students, and then there's more between Laura, Lee and Suki now because Rory's gone. So I think it's just a fun It was a fun episode for the new dynamic. I love it. For me, this episode was I felt like it was ten minutes. I'm like, what but so fast? And I love the technique of using the telephone to be able to have the interaction between these characters we love. So we saw great phone calls between Rory and Loraa Lae. That felt almost like they were in the same room. Super fast banter, and I loved how they used parents calling Laura Lee to get that interaction and then the to me that was a game changer. From there, we felt like we were missing some of these interactions, and Paris called her interesting, interesting, interesting, interesting. I, however, am going to take a different view. Um. You know, I kept watching and wondering who was missing. I kept missing Stars Hollow as the Town, I missed everybody in the cast that wasn't in this. I saw that Suki had replaced Rory I had. I saw that Paris had replaced Laureli. Uh. So now we're we're dealing with a new environment in the dorm room. Yale New Haven has not been established. I don't, you know, I don't know what it looks like. All I am and is inside this dorm room. I'm not even really on the campus very much. I'm not in a classroom, I'm not anywhere. So it's basically just Rory Um acting like she doesn't want to interact with her new classmates, she doesn't want to throw a party. Um and I saw these characters in a in a way that I've never seen them before in an environment that is brand new. So it's three years established as stars Hollow and Babette and Miss Patty and Kirk and Taylor and did And it's like the humor for me really pops as commentary off of all of these other characters and the zanies zane nous and the and the beauty and the communal nature of that town. That's what makes it warm and fuzzy. And I found all of that missing, and I had a very difficult time grasping or staying along with the ride. Um, I think you're making a great point. It is missing for me. I'm okay with this change. For me, it's like giving it uh sort of a kick in the pants. I'm not mad at the chain age. You're right, it's definitely missing, but I'm enjoying what's happening. Well, Um, yeah, I mean I made a whole list of like, you know, Pairs is now a regular right now, She's gonna be with Rory. Isn't that you know, strange bedfellows. We haven't seen that before. We don't we don't see we don't see mom and daughter together anymore. And this is the core of the show, holding it together. That's the center of the show. Everything else sort of revolves around that. That's the universe. That's the sun. Now the Sun has broken asunder and all of the other planets are missing, and we've got these new moons we're dealing with all that. So it's a whole new universe. It's a whole new galaxy that we're exploring. And it felt, you know, kind of flat to me. It's like I was, I don't know, I didn't want to leave the spaceship. I like the ship I'm on. You know what I'm saying. That's a really good analogy. Analogy and say that her. I like the ship we're on. So I think that's the thing. Now there could be an element that I know the ship and there are things coming that I love so much. So maybe I'm just comfortable because I've already been there before. Were you? And Danielle, you're like a little bit more jarred by it. Yeah, I'm a little jarred by how Rory is already struggling, how she's already anti social, how she's got these odd ball roommates, um and you know, the Paris flip out, Get Out, Get out, get out of this thing. And Rory just says, well, because she was happy, she wanted to, she was stoked, and she didn't have to. Look like here she is making all these new friends and then her her whacko roommate flips out on everybody and kicks everybody out. She's not worried about her reputation. You know, it's like she didn't have to do it. She was like skilled by association, right, No, they're like that woman's crazy, that gal's crazy. Whatever's granddaughter. So she had so she can get away. D a are all the way, man, I can do anything. Well discusses maybe a little bit later, but I feel like Rory just had the reason why we're kind of like, oh, what's going on with her? She's being anti social. I think she just hasn't found her person yet. Like in Stars Hollow, that was Laine, that's her mom, and in Yale she doesn't have that, you know, like these people that are trying to be friends with her or people that she's not like, she's not going to go to college and suddenly be different. That is who Rory is. She loves her books. She's just showing us that, like she loves being alone in her room reading her books. So she's being pretty consistent that she's trying. And Paris same thing. Paris is crazy, and I love that she was just Paris. But we felt that she was safe and that she was going to be successful while she was in her home with her mother in her bedroom reading her book, with all this crazy stuff happening around her, with the miss Patties and the tailor's and the chesses and all the stuff. Right, you, she always had a heart to come home to and she was always going to be protected. She doesn't have that protection anymore. I mean she does with her grandmother with her with her mother, sure, but she's on her own now and it's it's a little I don't know, it's a little scared. I think that's why Laurel I was like, maybe you should open your door for the party, like out there, and that's why like that second, sorry we're jumping around, but when she like opens the book and she's like, no, I shouldn't be doing this and she goes back out on the party, she's like she's listening to Laurel. Yeah, and she's trying, and I love it. And Paris tried for one episode to be a kind normal person with her life coach, and now she's back because she's like, I'm not having fun. They're just not there yet. I like, yeah, they agreed to one candle before we dig in. I want to know what Scott and Dan, you'll think of two people, Marty and Digger? Go ahead? Yeah? All right? Um Marty, I was like, whatever, okay, Um, obviously there's there might be something you know, uh, awaiting Rory in the future for potential love interest there um and Digger? What did I think? You know what I thought about Digger? Right? Well, I didn't think about Digger, but I thought about Richard. I thought, why is Richard so blind? And Emily has a point, and I understand why Emily popped at him. Why are you getting involved with somebody's son who has a revenge game going? Aren't you smarter than that? Don't you see that this is never going to be successful? And why would you do this? And aren't you sensitive to what we've been going through with our own daughter, who's you know, seeking revenge on us? Yeah? But it's like, why didn't just see the shot? Is he so blinded by his own need for revenge that he's gonna get involved with Digger and do this thing, which you know in the middle of it, Digger is going to go you know, I think I've made a mistake. I'm gonna go back to my family. I mean, it's like Digger gave him a solid pitch. I I just I was surprised that Richard fell for it, you know, because it felt to me like a setup. It felt to me like there's going to be more pain for Richard coming, Like, how are you trusting the son of the man who fired you after you gave your heart and soul for thirty five years or forty years to that firm. Interesting point, and Richard's doing so well on his own. He didn't really mean Digger, but I think he also Richard wants to win, and he wants to beat the guy that fired him, Diggers. Diggers the Trojan horse, and he led him in. I mean, it's just boy. Yeah. So Christopher Aigman, I don't want to say his name wrong plays Digger. The one thing I will say is I feel like an he's also on Masal. He knows how to do that Gilmore script, because I felt like right away he was nailing it. He was. He had the jokes, he had the rhythm, so I felt very comfortable with him immediately. Yeah, he's very waspy in that character. He's very waspy, right, So he's upper krusty, waspy guy, Harvard Grad and uh and I haven't seen Myzelle and I haven't seen him in it. He's got a small part, but he's great. Like he you know, he's he just immediately to me, fits in in the rhythm. Yeah, without without question. But I am surprised that Richard fell for it so quickly. I mean, this was an obvious trojan horse to me. And we'll see how it develops. I don't know how it develops, but we'll send you anyway. Um, so let's break it down, you know. That's that's that's what my overall initial impression was. After finishing the episode, I was, I don't know, I was I was thinking, you know, like, did this show just jumped the shark? What's going on here? We got to get it back to stars Hallow. We got to get back in the space capsule and get back to the planet stars Hollow. You know, So I like where you're that you're bringing that up, But to me, I was just as happy. When we segue a scene back to heart to Yale, I'm like, this is great. I love it here. I don't know, I don't know. I like Yale. I think it's because like also, like like I said, how the graduation episode kind of closed that chapter. I think that now, like when you're so comfortable being and start, it's like Rory, she was so comfortable and now you're like, oh my god, where is this place? I don't know? Where's that bad? Where's this fatty? Like you don't know where all these places are. But I think it's just like we're growing up with her. I think that's yeah. I agree. And then it makes it because obviously, like Rory is going to go back to Stars Hollow at some point, you know what I mean. And so it makes me look forward to those scenes where she is back. It's, you know, um, like distance makes the heart grow fonder, Like I make sited for when when we will have those episodes where Rory is uh, you know, goes back to Josie's market, goes back to the diner. Like I'm excited for that, but I'm also enjoying Yale at the time. Being. I wonder, Scott if sorry, I wonder I have a question for you. I wonder if they hadn't pretended she just didn't go to Yale and she went to like the Stars all of college? Whatever would you be? Would you be watching it? And would you be would you be bored? Maybe the change is like jarring for you. But I wonder if they made a great call, because this show is not monotonous. I feel like, here we are in season four, firing on all cylinders top of the Gilmore game. I'm not bored. It's not a typical season four where you're like, it's just the same old, same old modern family, you know. Whatever. What I'm doing is I'm questioning the wisdom of getting her off to college after only three seasons, and was thinking this should have been dragged out for six or seven seasons, keep her in high school for six or seven seasons, and then ship her off to college, because once you leave that Stars hollow, that's a tough sledding. And I know the fans still love it, and I know it's a very very loyal fan base, but for me personally watching this show as a fan, discovering it for the first time, I want to be in Stars. Hum, I don't want to be a Yale. Yes, people agree with you. Yeah, I'm sure I want to. I mean they could have you know, milked you know one what was she going as a junior or software? She wanted to Chilton as a sophomore. Okay, so that's three three years you've got there. You can do two seasons per year, right, people agree with you. You can do what you can do two seasons per year. You can do it. Want to be in the summer seven years and done with Chilton. I'm done with Childen. Done what they but but you could but you could have done it because you know, Alexis looked so young anyway. I mean Lane was twenty seven and playing high school. But like Chicken, Madeline Louise, I don't need to you know what I mean. Like, they're fine, cool, they showed up great, like oh, you know, applause, applause, and you know that's that's that's another point. You're not only out of Stars Hollow, you're out of Chilton. We got to know all those people, those whether we love them or hate and we want to bring their next or we want to be friends with them. We were familiar with them, we know them. They give us comfort familiarly like change, let's let's really, let's not on this show. Yeah, because I love the change. I love that we went from Dean to jail. I love that I know Logan. So wait a minute. So they go from a fancy, tony, expensive private school, which Chilton is. We see the interiors, we get a sense of it, we can smell it, we see all the uniforms, we see everything that's going on the teachers, and then we get to we get to Yale, there's none of that, and Yale is one the most regal universities in the world. You're just mad that we're only filming in the dorm. Yes, it's it's like it's boring. It's like, get out of the dorm show us. I don't know you're gonna send her to Yale. Go film it Yale or one class at Whale. And I didn't feel that whe when they went to empty table. Yeah, she showed up so early and Marty to but also this is day one, Like this is day on one of I feel like I'm fighting for stars because there I will say that, like the episode that we're in, like she's it's school has barely started yet, like she is trying to get comfortable on campus in her dorm. So we haven't even gotten to like the nitty gritties of her classes, her teachers and so on. Okay, but the creators have to know and the network has to know that we are leaving Chilton, which we love as an audience. We are we've established all the those locations and all those teachers and and the headmaster. We haven't met anybody at Yale. We haven't met that. Yeah, we've met the roommates and we've met Marty. I don't care about the dean. Okay, we've met a couple of girls in a in an outdoor corridor, but we haven't seen the campus. We haven't care. We don't get a sense. I'm not getting a sense of it. But I haven't established Yale for me. Respect to you, but I don't care. And also I don't care about children. I'm done with children. You know who I care about, Rory. That's who I care about, Rory. So I don't care about Chiltern. Goodbye Chiltern. I was bored by you. Now here we go like I am bored by you and your static photo every time we went to Chiltern. I'm ready for Rory. I don't really for me, I thought me conversations, we're also good. It just I loved this. I thought it moves. Wait a minute, you didn't think that the Suki freak out about get it out of me, get it out of me, get it out of me? Was bizarre. No, I loved every second of it because it's also this. I wrote this down. One of my very favorite scenes ever on Sex in the City is when Carrie Bradshaw puts on her wedding dress and she literally realizes I can't get married, and she says, get it off, get it off, and they're like literally ripping it off of her and it's hilarious and emotional. And I felt the same way about this. I thought that scene between Lauren and Melissa Suki and lor la was one of their best scenes in the whole run of the series. It was so well done. Melissa McCarthy, to me, won this episode, won the episode because we got to see her be different than just pratfalls. I was like, Wow, she's amazing. Mm hmmm, yeah, Okay, go back to the beginning. So what do you think that obviously we opened up in the dorm room. We've got the rug, we've got the this, we've got the muffins, we got the cookies. And Laura Lyne knows my there was here. She can smell her guilt and Chanelle number five, this is this is another issue I have. It's like, just take the gift, you know, be grateful the grandmother care. She furnished the place, and they're trying to create all this drama and all these issues about something that they should be thanking her for. In my opinion, they can be thanking her issue. The place wasn't furnished. There was no new new furniture. Yet this is the opening where Lorelai knows that Emily has been there ahead and sorry, it's okay, that's okay, you're fired. Okay, you're fired. So we have the hint there because I thought to myself, was Emily, there is Emily there? Like I knew Lorelai was probably right for sure, you don't have that scene and not have Emily later, you know. So then we have the scene in class where we first see Marty, so we basically lee what I took aways, like Rory showed up literally so early and so did this other guy. Oh my god, they're they're kindred souls. And then the t A is like, you idiot freshman. I like how Laurel I was like every year you try to convince me that the teacher wants me, Like, no teacher wants to meet at six thirty. That just shows who she is. And like I like that she had another another person in the class with her, like, oh I'm not the only one. Yeah, that's cute. Yeah. So we're look, we're meeting Marty and that's a big deal, like, okay, here here he is. No, Scott's just you didn't like it. No, I'm I'm listening. I'm listening. You know. It didn't impact me in any way. Really, it was just like whatever. So then we go back and we're in Suki Suki's kitchen and Jackson's doing his bit with the baby monitor, and we kind of and that they want to have a catering job. Also awful, like your sound system in your house hooked up to the baby monitor. That would drive me bonkers. That was pretty funny though, Um you know we I almost did that. We had monitors upstairs and we had paranoid dad. Yeah, yeah, you know, yeah, it was very protective. You relate to Jackson in that oh yeah, big time, big time. Yeah, I mean, and in that regard, yes, I had that house sort of bugged and there was video everywhere. I mean, that kid, that kid couldn't make a move or a poop or a fart without me knowing about it, Like there he goes again. So I think that that's cute then that Jackson is that way for me. One of the questions I have throughout this whole episode is how did they get permission to use all those Lord of the Rings things? Is Lord of the Rings Warner Brothers? I believe, I believe, I believe that. I believe that it is a Warner Brothers thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, because that's the only way, because it was pretty extensive, wasn't. It wasn't like one reference, it was it was major. It was it's Warner Brothers. And yeah that was even Yeah, they even played like a clip of totally that was like, how did they get permission? So it must have been it was just a phone call in a favor, and sure, go Ahead might have been stoked because it was great advertising for them. Why not? And I also liked it because it made that whole birthday party more authentic. It would have been weird if it was like not it really was integrated nicely. But anyway, so Helen Thompson wants to hire them for Aaron's birthday and uh, yeah, so we know they're going to take this gig and we'll see how that goes. Right. Right then we come in to the dorm and there is the furniture. Great first of all, great by me too, but I understand it. Yeah, I thought it's not college furniture, though, come on, nice and comfy stuff. I would have been happy as a clam. You should see you should have seen my room in college. Oh boy, all I could think of was Laura Ashley and Pierre do like. I was like, oh, this is Emily doing her the Entertainment Center with with five point one surround sounds, and my favorite is like this is a plasma TV. Like but it's a lot of a grandma. If my grandma came in and did that in my room, I might be like, yeah, the hell, And I would definitely call my mom and be like, Mom, Grahamy just redid my whole room without me even knowing. Yeah, we sure all have such grandmothers. So let me tell you that that's that's a pretty nice thing. I mean I do. I did have those grandmothers, and I was like, my grandma wouldn't have snuck into my room and done it, But I had those grandmothers that were like totally would have done that. And I have a mom that would. My mom would come into my house and redecorate the whole thing, like literally if I went out of town. So for me, that was totally relatable and like, oh, yeah, this is this happens. I loved it. I think, yeah, I would have gotten on the phone and thanked him profousely. Yeah. So we then see Laura Laie for one of just a few times in this series with her glasses on. Yeah, she looked. She looks so cute in this whole episode. Oh my god, I'm just obsessed with that. She's cute and the fashion. I'm just obsessed with her. But yeah, she was wearing her glasses and she they you see it a few times throughout the series, and she talks about the Lord of the Rings party and she talks about the jeeps making a noise. Then we get the phone call with Rory to complain about what Grandma's done, which I I just loved that because Scott, I feel like you would be so happy because it's giving you that interaction with what on on phones, But now it's phone calls, and I thought I wasn't mad at it. I'm telling you, the death of a TV series is people on the phone. Okay, It's like it doesn't work, it's not good. You gotta be together. I've kind of gone to a point where like I'm a little over Lordly complaining about her parents. I am too. I was just like enough with this is the evil woman with her manipulative ways giving you a really nice couch. It's like, can you stop? Like I kind of wish or hope that, Like when Rory does call lor lyon say oh my gosh, Grandma did this, I kind of wish Lorela was just like okay, yeah, sure, and like not not. I I don't know. I got I'm over her being like, oh, well of course she did. She's trying to manipulate you. You know, like that kind of stuff is kind of over for me. But I do love that, like Rory is kind of like I'm going to stand up to Grandma and then just doesn't stand up for what for being nice? I mean she should have center a thank you card. Point Scott, that's a fair point. I mean she went out of her way and spent a lot of or something. I mean, let's are on the side of caution here and be a little grateful. But you know, then it wouldn't be dramedy, wouldn't quick shout out to lorialize gold necklace with that circle, very delicate chain circle. Alright gold Nicholas ch Okay. So then we see Richard and Emily, and Emily is looking at fabrics and she tells Richard that Jason Styles has called, and Richard's obviously like w tf, digger, And I love that he says, they will not be a drink. There's not going to be a hand Like the drink is such a symbol for these people of like if you get to the drink, it's like on the Tonight Show, remember if you got to sit on the couch with Johnny after doing your stand up. Yeah, to me, that's the drink, Like, okay, you've made it to the next made it. Yeah. He was feeling the sting of getting let go too much and he was too vulnerable and now he's going to get used. Maybe were you happy to see Richard and Emily back? Yeah, it was like finally some some there, familiar people that we know and love in their in their environment. And that's where we want to say, don't they establish No, it's not a question of that. It's like, you've got something successful and we've established locations. I'm repeating myself, Uh, don't take them out of those locations. Don't fix it if it ain't broke. I get what you're saying. It's like friends, we always had the six of them in every episode, and there would be like little tiny people here and there, but you never didn't have the six of them. So maybe what you're feeling is like we had the ten of them, and now we only have four of them, right, and a bunch of random people that we don't know, and we haven't gotten to know, and we maybe not don't even care to get to know. I get to I care. She came back from dinner like I told you. Yeah, yeah, but we didn't even get to the dinner table. We just got to some like folk controversation, which she backed down from. Alright, alright, alright, okay, one shout out about rich Richard saying harrass instead of her grass yes on the st yeah, shout out, yeah, I noticed that. Okay, So now we've got Harris and she wants Rory to open the door. She is like really big on this party and the whole thing. I love him. A good idea, right, and she goes, you're suck up furniture exactly what they should do. It was a good idea. Paris was in the right. I was like to for wanting to try. She goes, I hate college. They do seem a little bit like they haven't embraced I mean like I remember my first few days of college and it was like, oh my god, it was so fun. Like so I do feel like they maybe, you know, they do have this room filled with odd balls, because they've got Tana Shrik, who's like literally I think fifteen and a half. She said, she's think seen for like her birthday was coming. We've got the exercise Girl, which actually is a lot of that's pretty real. And then we've got crazy Paris and Rory. So they are sort of an island of misfit. But if you had that much free food and that much free pizza and that much drink and all that stuff. That place would have been jammed to the rafters and you wouldn't have gotten people out of there no matter what. But they're also like, between Paris and Rory, they don't know how to throw a party for people their age, Like they didn't go to ragers in high school. They don't. They don't know. So like for them, that one candle with Rory's version of a party is like take Out in the movie, you know. I mean, I'm glad they opened the door. I think that was very good that Lora La also convinced Rory like open open the door. So okay. So then we're going back and forth now between Yale and the birthday party. So oh and we do have a moment where we see Lane. So Lane comes in. We got Lane for like a pot. Second Lane comes in with some props from antiques. So they figured out a way to get you can tell they're like, how do we get this person in there? How we're going to get these people back in there? Did I walk by the door and wave or something? You delivered muffins? You muffins? Just yeah, you got just you were only there in the name in spirit. Although Luke was very prominent, very prominent in the week before. Ye very like the rest too much. Well, you don't think an audience can handle two weeks and we get we get the five that Lane school is very strict because she like, we're embracing and then uh I loved lordl shirt love the one you're with. Got to give a fashion mention. Mrs kim No, Mrs kim No, No Taylor, no, nobody, nobody, no Kirk no Taylor. We did get a phone call from Paris, So then what did you think about Paris calling Laura Lines saying Rory's not adjusting well? God another phone call, because also, like Paris is such a thirty year old, you know what I mean, Like she's so not college Like anybody who's saying that, like a friend that would was actually concerned would have been like, hey, Mrs Gilmore, I feel like maybe, um, we should talk to Rory or something like not like she's not adjusting well to college, Like she's just such a grown up. I just love that Laura La convinces Rory to open the door, and she somehow Paris yells like I care about the reason. That's a good line, Like I care about the reason. Does anybody feel like Paris and Rory have a sister le vibe? To me, that's very sisterly the way they are said, say, Paris is definitely well yeah to Paris is the older mean her sister, and I thought we also learned why Paris is so hell bent on these certain things. She wants to start over, she wants a fresh start, she wants to she wants to be cool, she wants to have people like her, and she has made one hell of an impression. Well struck McEnroe, get out of here, everybody out. Now. Have you ever done that at a party when somebody pissed Joe so much? She just kicked everybody out? Have you ever done that? Have you ever been to a party where that happens? Yeah, I've been. I've been parties for sure, sure, yeah yeah, yeah, it's uh, it's people talk about it for months. Mostly the party they had, you know, senior year where the cops came was that was pretty spot on of how those high school parties go. So that are not just someone raged, get out of my you know, A better episode, a better episode would have been par Us drunk off her out of her gourd Oh my god, I just dancing the limbo and just like just rocking out, you know, because all that crazy energy could have been what would have happened if you apply alcohol to it's some cool music and just let just wind up Paris and let her go in a scene. We'll get to make it marty. But okay, so let's quickly talk about the Lord of the Rings party. We're we've bounced around as much. Who knew that Suki was going to mess up the food? I mean I saw that coming from yes, literally from a mile away. When she grabbed the giant salmon. I was like, oh my god, the green mac and cheese. It's so true, Like even though it's a mag and cheese, the fact that it's green, No child under the age of ten is going to eat that or go near it. Yeah. Wait, do you know who the little girl was who said this taste like diapers? Do you know that actress? No? Who's that? It's Victoria Justice, No Disney Victorious, Yes, no way, great spotting Tara. I just I remember I was like, I know this kid. I know this kid, and I watched Victorias so then I looked it up. But she's like, I think she's credited as like kid number three or like whatever it was, like did have her name? Yeah, she's credited on the episode. How cool. I love that, you know. That's what's so interesting. So like Scott, like, even though it's been twenty years, I mean, you're sort of the same dude, right, You're sort of the same dude. But the kids, these young young ones, the twenty years is such like Victoria Justice then to now you're like, oh my god, I'm not the same dude. No, I'm saying like, but you don't look that drastically different. You're not that different. Whereas the young child actors that are five and twenty that it's so oh my god. Even um Dan his little sister. You're like the guy from Big Time Rush what was his name to Kendall and now he's like this big puff star, you know, like just this little guy on going like Melissa is basically Melissa, you know. All right, So we go to then Digger and Richard. So Digger comes in and has that conversation with Richard. Talk to me Trojan Horse. It's a setup. I'm sorry. Emily said it so perfectly. She was like, you're forgetting that this guy fed him, raised him, like, so he's going to have a lot of similarities to his father. That's a red flag. Yep, I'm not buying. I hate my daddy and I want to get even new. Yeah, no, it's not. He's just trying to eliminate the competition. He's in there to destroy Richard's business, Daniel, is there anything else you might be feeling about Digger anything? I'm just curious. Would you date him? No, don't talk lore Lie. For the love of God, why are you serious? No, I have no knowledge, but I'm just asking Tara if she would date him. Me. No, I like Digger. You guys, you would you guys like that at Berkeley or their guys like that at Berkeley to the manner Born. Oh yeah, of course sure I would. I would definitely consider Digger. But he's not my type. Is that with a little bit more edge? He's not, although he is like kind of going out on his own. Yeah, Diggers cool, you guys, he's cute. He's got enough edge for you. I couldn't pass on him just because of the name Digger. But now you just use a little sleeves to me like he's setting up Richard Man he's setting him up, put him on the road history, and he's going to turn him a roast him. Show is like, I can see why. Yeah, hopefully he changes my mind. But he doesn't seem like good news to me. I don't trust him. I don't I'm with Emily, I don't trust him. Yeah, I don't trust him as far as I can throw no wish. So we're back at the party and we see Madeline and Louise. Were you happy to see them, Scott? Yes, thank god comic relief. That was the right kind of random because we knew who they were, we knew what they were going to say, we knew the attitude. Thank god. It was much needed comic relief. I hadn't laughed in a while and I was missing stars Hollow, and then they appeared. I was like, yeah, alright, well at least we get some Chiltern. They had makeovers too. They looked different, but they're different Chiltern with Tana putting on her the uniform shrickim the to the two new girls. Yeah, the twins? So what do the twins were fun? You need a nickname? What I say? Rory logo logo row Glow. First of all, then you can tell twins, because you know twins, This is pretty authentic to twins. They they're certainly just so into each other chatting way. Rory is like in the background, and then I love that Paris is like we were the good sister. My only issue with Madeline Louise is like where is Mills? And then Tulane is New Orleans in California. So then like the first week, well I know that one of obviously isn't going to Mills, Like coming up from Tulane, You're like, why would you come? You know what I mean, Like it's in the first Yeah, it's not. It's not twenty minutes away. Wait, they rip Rory out of Stars Hollow and you have a problem with Madeline and we showing up from a minute drive. Well yeah, but no, but that's the thing. It's it's not far like Malone have to get on a plane, correct you, Yales open you know I was sending out to stress signals, you know, falling off my couch and clomping my head. They sent they sent their girls in so desperate. He's just like, if Kirk could just be the pizza delivery guy, what show was I watching? I wasn't watching something else four. It was Gilmore Girls, and it was unfamiliar. It wasn't girls Gilmore Girls were moving on life. It was it was like the A T and T version of Gilmore Girls on the telephone. Right, Look, that was a good Line's true, It's true. Okay. So now we get this powerful scene between or Lie and Suki, which I thought was really really good. M hmm. Melissa was like amazing. She really went a different way, and she, like I'm sure many pregnant women do, panicked. Mm hmmm. You're gonna get so many letters. I can't wait. Bring your comments, bring your comments. You know what about comments for your comments and everybody's comments. Why can't they get letters for their comments? Look, I don't want to be cocky, but I feel like the people are going to agree with me. Open up a diner at you, pop up, looks gotta pop up el No Yale should open an annex in stars Hollow. Okay, oh my god. Campus he wants her to go to the stars Hollow Community College. He can't, he can't take it. Just not just staying next week, wait till next week. I'm waiting. This is why the show is so great because because it makes you wait, it pisces you off a little bit, and then it delivers, you know what I mean. I think they do it on purpose. I thought it was a beautiful I think this episode. I think this episode was the digger. This whole episode was a digger, right, a trojan horse. Don't you think to make us think one thing, but it's going to do another. No. I thought it was a beautiful moment between Suki and lor Ly. Yes, as you've stated, why why because I just get an out of me, get it out of me, get an out of me. Well, first of all, I thought it was funny, but I also thought it was really hard felt and your baby friendship, and you see the way like lore La is such a she really is a great mom, and she really is a great friend. She is a great mom because she knew how to solve this mess with the you know, salmon and the green mac and cheese. She goes into gear. She's a great worker, she knows how to sell problems, and she's such a good friend because so she's all the things. So I thought, you know, there's my girl. Was Obviously Suki was having a moment and there was some crises. I mean, you girls can comment on this better than I. I think there are times when someone needs their friend and you see what best friends these guys are, And like Lorela, I wasn't afraid to be like, this isn't how it's done. Like she's not like like sugarcoating it. She's not like, oh it's okay, She's like, this is not what kids like. You have to know if we're gonna get into this business, and if you're going to have a kid, you should know that the kid's not gonna want you carrot sticks. I also think they're like every um, every person that's becoming a mom, right, Like they always have the fear that they're not going to be a good mom, Like no one wants to be a bad mom, and so there is that fear that I think is relatable. You know, I don't even have kids yet, but eventually when that time comes, I'm like, I just hope I'm a good mom. And I think Suki is like calculating that in her head, like, oh my god, I couldn't even get the kids menu right. The one thing I can actually control is food. I know how to make food, and I couldn't even make pizza right. The thing that bothered me so much, with the thoughts and the words uh, and the anger and the fear and the rage that was coming out of Suki. I had never seen it before. That character, that character, that character, that character is a touched own for comedy, for comfort, for you know, the sunny side of life, for optimism, for all of this stuff. You've just never seen her like this, and it was so odd. Oh see, I loved it. That's so interesting. But I think, Scott, I think we can see the thing that's happening for you here. You are uncomfortable with this difference. Listen, doctor, listen doctor. You know I'm not sending you a check. I'm not on a couch here. Okay, will you take it easy with the analysis. I think Scott, you're afraid of Okay, we get it, okay in your life. But the show, yes, I know, but that's all I'm referring to too. It's like in the show you you love it, and you cannot understand why they took this level of risk because it was a conversation at the studio level. It was a conversation in the writer's room, you know, it was we've are we gonna grab how long? How long are we gonna grab? We're gonna graduate her after three years? And center to you, we're gonna do it in five years. We're gonna do it in six years. Why an't we going to do it? They did it sooner rather than later because maybe they didn't have enough confidence in the show was gonna last that long, so they wanted to They thought getting her Yale was going to really pump up the ratings or something like that, you know, and get hit another demo. Who knows. But that was a decision that was made, and I don't think it was a good one. Yeah, I mean, that's what I think that That's what I'm referring to, is that you don't like seeing this direction where I do. Why do the fans to tune in? Why do people tune in? They want to They want to be in that town. They want to be with Kirk, they want to be with Lane, they want to be with Taylor, they want to be with all the people that they want to live in that town. The most important character in that show is stars hollow itself. This is true, This is true. And then you take you take people out of that situation. And then you've got trouble, and I'm experienced just reflecting that. No, no no, no, you could be totally right. For me, everything is about Rory and Lorelie. Everything that's I don't agree with that. I think they I think that they need all of those and they were we were all supporting characters because they were established two leads. Those only two people that got on the poster, they're the only two people that did talk shows. That there were only two people that got paid. Everybody else was incidental. But now you see how valuable they are. Now you see how valuable every single character in that show is. At least for me, it's a very stark contrast being out of that universe with all of those wonderful characters, so that their humor and their anxiety, uh and their irony and their cervict wit can really bounce off of everything because it provides all the fuel was provided by those town characters and the wacki goings on. Now we're in a foreign territory. It ain't it ain't popping like it was. So I'm a little concerned about it as as a fan of the show and having fallen in love with stars Hollow and all of its characters and how Rory and Laura I interact within that world, so taking it out of that world is very risky. I mean, yeah, for me, I think it's Rory and Lorela and then for me Luke, So Luke is almost as important to me as them. But I am not. I'm cool with Gale. I love what's coming. I think some of my favorite things are coming in season four and five, so I'm I'll definitely keep watching. You know, I'm interested to see. But it's just the three girls who recount the rest of the show. Imagine, we're like, um, Scott quit, you can just go. You can just put up a little sign here and says gone fishing. Okay, so just just like this microphone with this, We're like, buddy, you're gonna have to keep watching, and I think you're gonna I think you're gonna come around. I could be wrong by thinking I probably will, but right now I'm giving you my honest feedback in real time. I just saw the episode and I'm not sugarcoating it well, and I hope you don't mind me arguing with you, because I love the argument. I wake up with hoping somebody argues with me. I love playing Devil's Advocate. I love them. I love them more than two. But I love them in Stars. I mean, I'd like to go to that town. I love that town. But I'm cool with Yale. Okay, so what did you think we see naked Marty? So what did that? Listen? If you've got a football team and you've got a quarterback and a wide receiver that are connecting all the time, but now the wide receivers in another town and they're making calls, they're not Tom Brady about Tom Brady. Brady, he's been in the Patriots. I tried to develop that analogy. It didn't really and I'm going to come on the counteract it. Tom Brady. Everybody was comfortable with Tom Brady, but I'm not even think Tom Brady fan. But I'm just gonna say Tom Brady is on the Patriots, and everyone loves Tom Brady on the Patriots. All of a sudden he's on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Oh but they still went to the Super Bowl. But at least he stayed in in in New England for how many years there? Seventeen years, eighteen years, good point a long time. But did you not enjoy that Tom Brady went to the Buccaneers, like you can follow him there. Some people are now fans, don't. I'm just it's still not the Patriots. But it's not a bad you create. You created dynasty. You keep it going for a couple of more years before you you know, sometimes he needs right now. I don't know that we're in Tampa Bay right now, Yale, I would I don't know, A right, fair, fair, fair, a fair we could see, we'll see. So can somebody make a note this season four, episode three, somebody make a little note that in like ten episodes, let's see how Scott is feeling and saying, because we'll forget. I know you won't. It might be so into digger. What do you think of Marty? Uh? I don't know. I don't know. He's kind of he's alright, I guess a little flat. Too long. It took her way too long to hand over the road. It was like it was like or she's up by the way. She was like playing with it. So I think she knew like it was coming in the scene, you know, but like she kept playing with them, like can you just hand in the rope and not cox him you guys can't laugh when she can't wake him up, and then she tickles him with the rope that was so good, and then he's all, are you in my Japanese fiction class? By the way, that sounds like a hard class. I didn't expect Mary from I almost thought of them as two separate characters, like I didn't expect Marty and school, who arrives early just like Rory does to be then a few hours later, completely blacked out and naked. Well, remember she was also eyeing him at the at the party whatever. She was going to go talk to him. I was going to go talk to him, and she's eyeing him and he was just kind of like leaning against the wall. M hm. Yeah. I don't know how he got so wasted, but was that it? That's freshman year of college for you three beers, and you show up like that. What he says like, I'm officially a bigger idiot than my brother. Yea, yeah, this guy's so rub And then we go to Scott. This will bring you such comfort. We've got Lorala and Rory and Emily and Richard altogether on a front. Finally, wait a minute, let me refer to my notes here alright, Finally Friday night dinner recrencient furniture finally feels like Gilmore Girls. There it is, there, it is. I wrote it down. Finally feels like Gilmore Girls. Yeah, and I thought the best line, and I'll give you my best line. Richards says. He talks about his little conspiracy revenge deal with Gigger as downright Elizabethan nice line and Gilmore situation. Um so anyway, yeah, so you're right. I was comforted. How many what are we doing dorm dorm rooms couches? I think I think we're doing, uh, Laura, how many Laura Ashley couches? We do have any like weird hidden things? I did see a prominent clown pillow talk amongst something I noticed. It was just a random, like choice. But like when she's talking to Laura Lie on the phone in the dorm and she goes and grabs water bottle, which I thought was the most pointless moment to grab a water bottle, but then she sets it behind the plate of apples so you don't see the label. And it was a though, and it was we all noticed it was like strategically that didn't do product placements. So she strategically placed it behind the bowl of apples. No, we all noticed that aquafina so much that that was the point of taking a sip like one littlest yes there are My crack team has actually uh going on vacation. Uh. They are in Costa Rica right now, riding alligators or crocodiles or something. So no notes for this one. If you guys have any let's let's hear. Yeah, clown pillow very prominent, and that is two back to back, very prominent clown pillows. Season four is really here for the clown season of the clown and I couldn't agree more. Wait, how many dorm room Laura Ashley couches? All right, so let's let's do it. Yeah, how many lour Ashley couches? Danielle? Are you giving this five couches? Couches? Wow? That's generous, Uh, Tara, I was going to say six, six couches to Amy, wow, half eight and a half couches? Uh, how many couches for you? I'm gonna give it to two couches. Two couches for too many phone calls and we're out of stars, hollow and we haven't established Yale and nobody wants to hear the rant anymore. And that's just how I feel about it. And I love you. What's next week? Uh? We got chicken beef? You know My answer to that is both? Why not see it? Four? Keep the cards and letters coming. I wish we were more controversy. I love everybody.
