Moments later, gunfire erupted through it. Destiny was struck and did not survive her injuries. Investigators would later say she may not have been the intended target, believing the shooter may have gone to the wrong apartment. In the years that followed, the case drew federal attention, a reward was offered, and an arrest was eventually made.
