What happens when AI doesn’t just make people faster, but fundamentally changes the way they work?

In this episode of Humanising Data, Erin Evans sits down with Chaitanya Kuber, Chief Technology Officer at Airtasker and a technology leader with more than two decades of experience building and scaling customer-centric digital products.

Before Airtasker, Chaitanya held senior engineering and technology leadership roles across some of the world’s most recognised digital businesses, including Atlassian and Expedia Group, with earlier experience at companies including BigCommerce. Today, he leads engineering and data at Airtasker, bringing both disciplines together to rethink how technology, data and AI can drive better decisions and commercial outcomes.

And the results are measurable.

Airtasker has seen a 3x lift in engineering productivity, created new ways for teams to interact with data, and taken one AI-enabled experiment from a conversation in Slack to its first customer sale in just nine days.

But the bigger story isn’t the technology. It’s what happens to human potential when the technology gets better.

Chaitanya shares why an engineer’s value is increasingly about solving problems rather than simply writing code, why adopting AI without changing the way we work only gets us so far, and why the people who can move between technology, data, product and commercial thinking could become increasingly valuable.

Erin and Chaitanya also unpack experimentation, AI governance, the rise of agents, the evolving role of engineers and what it takes to create a culture where people have the confidence to learn, challenge and rethink how work gets done.

Because the real opportunity with AI isn’t simply doing the same work faster. It’s reconsidering what humans should spend their time doing in the first place.
