There is a world of difference between the theory we learnt in school and the reality we experience everyday. This is especially true about Civics. This podcast lays bare the gap between what textbooks preach to school kids about politics and what we actually see in Indian politics.

Starting with the 8th Grade CBSE CIvics textbook ( https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1x21Px3Cj8JJ3PvdahlHCcDJFajAKtiIQ?usp=sharing ), every episode will have a guest who will talk about their reflections, doubts and takeaways from reading the chapter. The podcast will be hosted by Meghnad S and co-hosted by Shreyas Manohar. Every episode situates the guest at their hang-out spot from 8th grade, and recreates the vibe of friends revising for an exam moments before it starts.

So let's get schooling, let's get schooled and let's learn how to citizen!

Ep. 02: Chapter 2 - Understanding Secularism with Srishti Dixit & Andre Borges

"If we desire respect for the law, we must first make the law respectable." - Louis D. Brandeis

The Final episode of How To Citizen deserves a good quote, amirite? Yes, we've reached the end of a ten episode long journey of this Podcast which delves into our lovely 8th Grade CBSE civics book.

Sadface

In this season finale, Meghnad & Shreyas have instigator-in-chief as their guest: Kunal "Wah-Modiji-Wah" Kamra. He talks to our hosts about 'Law & Social Justice's where they discuss how absolutely crappy the enforcement of our laws is, how there is an elitist bias in pretty much everything and how Social Justice is kind of an unrealistic concept in present day India. This is even more true, according to our Civics book, because it gives the example of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy to prove a point.

Ep. 09: Chapter 9 - Public Facilities with Ashish Shakya

After Understanding Marginalization in the last episode, and much talk about Pterodactyls and Capitalism, now it's time to Confront Marginalization. To achieve this oh-so-important deed, Meghnad and Shreyas talk to Joel Parriera, show-runner, director and doer of all things media. Also, as he points out, a minority.

Joel talks about his experience coming to India from Saudi Arabia, from a Monarchy to a Democracy. But the fun thing is he was talking about the Indian Democracy while he lived in a Monarchy. Quite an awkward situation IRL.

The trio discuss reservations and why we need them, try to bust some common upper-caste myths about the issue and also discuss the recent 10% general category quota.
