Also, rats are getting into the engine compartment of a callers car.

Dean talks about the issue about aging in place in your own home. An AARP survey says 75% of people want to stay in their own homes as they age.  Dean discusses the things you can do to make your home ‘age friendly’ from walk in bathtubs to grab bars because they need to function decades longer than initially intended and these days you will likely recoup almost 100% of the cost of preparing your home for aging in place. As an aside, Dean also talks about the importance of solar power and backup systems in the event of power outages.

 

Dean also takes listener calls about a occasional smell coming from a central air conditioning system, why a sliding glass door in a family room is leaking when it rains damaging the wood floor, what precautions someone should take when turning on the air conditioning, heating unit for the first time in several years, how to install ‘grab bars’ in an exiting tile shower, whether a walk in tub is a good idea to install or will it have to be reversed when we plan to sell and how to get European style doors and windows serviced when everyone is encouraging me to replace them completely.
